Jaeger-LeCoultre announces the opening, on November 23 2024, of an expanded and redesigned flagship boutique in Dubai Mall, the United Arab Emirates’ most prestigious shopping and lifestyle destination.

Design inspiration from the Vallée de Joux

Behind the glass façade, the interior design is defined by references to the Vallée de Joux’s natural beauty, with organic materials, clear, natural colours and carpet designs inspired by trees, rocks and minerals. With a finely judged balance of straight lines and soft curves, the decor also makes a subtle nod to Art Deco, a design language close to the heart of Jaeger-LeCoultre as it represents the origin of the Reverso. The ambience is open, warm and welcoming, inviting visitors not only to discover Jaeger-LeCoultre’s timepieces but also to explore the entire world of La Grande Maison.

Discovering emblematic calibres and ground-breaking patents

Immediately inside the entrance, the Patent Wall celebrates Jaeger-LeCoultre’s inventiveness as the holder of more than 430 patents for inventions that have advanced timekeeping precision, ergonomics and aesthetics. The interactive display invites visitors to explore the Manufacture’s four key areas of expertise: Sound, Celestial, Precision and Design.

An interactive Calibre Wall displays some of the most emblematic calibres that underline La Grande Maison’s authority as the ‘Watchmaker of Watchmakers™’. Drawn from more than 1,400 calibres created to date, the physical calibres are arranged according to four fields of expertise: Precision, Chiming, Functional and Thin & Small. A touch-screen invites visitors to choose among fascinating videos from Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Behind the Calibres series, taking them deep inside the design and history of key movements.

Historic milestones and a celebration of craftsmanship

To one side of the main display area in the heart of the boutique, the Manufacture Wall celebrates the 180 skills brought together in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s fully integrated Manufacture, presenting each of the five main steps of fine watchmaking: design, production, finishing, assembling and ornamentation. A series of evocative In The Making videos initiates visitors into the secrets of each step, with each film focusing on a different skill and telling the story of the craftsman in his or her own words.

Underlining Jaeger-LeCoultre’s history of creativity and innovation, the Manufacture Table presents the milestones of the Maison’s 190 years of history, which parallel the development of the watchmaking industry as a whole. The Manufacture Table also presents four Métiers Rares™ that are housed in their own atelier within the Manufacture: engraving, guillochage, enamelling and gem-setting.

An exceptional showcase of timeless timepieces

The Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique in Dubai Mall showcases a stunning display of timepieces, offering an unparalleled opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to explore the diversity and craftsmanship of the Maison. The power of personalisation

Adjoining an open lounge area, the Personalisation Wall inspires clients to create a truly personal expression of their style by customising their timepieces. An interactive Strap Bar invites them to experiment with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s complete strap collection for all models and discover their own perfect pairing of watch case with strap material, colour and stitching. The power of personalisation is taken further with a display of engraved and lacquered Reverso case-backs that provide inspiration for owners of Monoface Reverso models who may wish to add a personal emblem in engraving, lacquer or enamel.

A pause for refreshment

Visitors to the boutique are invited to enrich their experience of La Grande Maison by pausing to enjoy a refreshment in the Welcome Area – the first of its kind to be integrated into a Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique in the Middle East. It is designed in homage to Art Deco, the period when the Reverso was born. In this inviting ambience, visitors can discover flavours from the Vallée de Joux in beverages specially created for the Maison by the Parisian master pastry chef, Nina Métayer.

Two VIP Lounges and a newly commissioned art installation

Discreetly located in the farthest end of the boutique are two interconnecting VIP Lounges, offering a refined and private experience to collectors and special clients. One lounge can be transformed in moments into a private screening room, enabling guests to fully immerse themselves in a selection of fascinating and educational watchmaking films. The other lounge features an expressive and eye-catching art installation specially commissioned for the boutique from Emirati architect and artist Abdalla Almulla. An allegory for the longstanding link between Jaeger-LeCoultre and the United Arab Emirates, the geometric patterns captured in the art piece evoke the forms of pine cones from the Vallée de Joux forests and the trunks of date palms from the Dubai desert, with a subtle transition in colour from one to the other.

Hands-on watchmaking experiences

A dedicated Atelier d’Antoine workshop space is set behind glass walls. Here, Jaeger-LeCoultre presents hands-on programmes for watch enthusiasts who wish to know more about how a fine mechanical watch is made. Based on different themes that are core to the Jaeger-LeCoultre story, the Discovery Workshops and Masterclasses are richly immersive experiences that combine theoretical learning with hands-on watchmaking practice, to groups of a maximum of eight people per workshop.

Dubai, May 7, 2024: Swiss watchmaking Maison Jaeger-LeCoultre marked a momentous occasion with the Emirati premiere of ‘The Precision Pioneer’ exhibition. This captivating showcase, hosted at ICD Brookfield Place in DIFC, invites the public to discover how the pursuit of precision has advanced the art of fine watchmaking over the course of almost 200 years.

A Dazzling Debut Event

To kick off this remarkable exhibition, Jaeger-LeCoultre was honoured to welcome the Jordanian-Palestinian R&B artist Zeyne and the Syrian actor Moatasem Al Nahar during an exclusive private opening celebration.

The Emirati film producer Abdulla Alkaabi was animating the evening as its Master of Ceremony before handing over to the renowned DJ Kaboo for the after party.

Honouring Precision

Adding to the festivities, Chinese light-painting artist Roy Wang unveiled for the first time four exclusive light-painting artworks created exclusively for La Grande Maison and performed a live light-painting show with one of his signature motives - the dragon.

Two Michelin-starred Indian chef Himanshu Saini, who created four special bites for Jaeger-LeCoultre, was also present, inviting guests to embark on a culinary journey blending ingredients of the Vallée de Joux with flavours from the subcontinent at the Precision Atelier.

Both collaborations were commissioned by Jaeger-LeCoultre under its Made of Makers programme – a series of artistic partnerships that expands the dialogue between watchmaking and other art forms.

A New Limited-Edition Timepiece Revealed

The exhibition opening was further graced by the reveal of a new interpretation of the Master Grande Tradition Calibre 948, with a green enamel dial. A uniquely artistic expression of the world-time complication uniting mechanical excellence with rare handcrafts - enamelling, guillochage and lacquering. The Universal Tourbillon makes a complete circuit around the dial in 24 hours, echoing the way that Earth spins on its axis and makes a circuit around the Sun.

A Journey Through Time and Precision

Created by Jaeger-LeCoultre as part of its mission to expand the cultural conversation around fine watchmaking, ‘The Precision Pioneer’ offers visitors a deep immersion into the art and science of precision in fine watchmaking.

From the palladium hairspring to the first multi-axis tourbillon or from the anti-magnetic cage to the Duometre concept, visitors are invited to embark on a quest for precision divided in four chapters: The Precision of Production, The Precision of Chronometry, The Precision of Regulating Organs and The Precision of Complications.

The Pursuit of Precision – a Story of Ingenuity Told in Four Chapters

A core value since the company was founded by Antoine LeCoultre in 1833, the quest for precision has particular significance at Jaeger-LeCoultre. A prolific inventor as well as a visionary watchmaker, the founder of La Grande Maison was obsessed with precision and several of his inventions, including the first pinion-cutting machine, were to have a profound influence on the entire watchmaking industry. Over the decades, continuing research into precision has resulted in a series of breakthroughs, with many of the Maison’s 430 patents being awarded for its work in this field. Today, while modern technological aids to precision have turned core stages of the watch production process into an exact science, technology will never entirely replace the precise human gestures involved at every stage from raw metal to finished timepiece, for it is the craft of the human hand that imbues a fine mechanical watch with its ineffable soul.

‘The Precision Pioneer’ celebrates the magic of mechanical watchmaking. The exhibits will include rarely seen archive materials as well as components that allow insight deep inside watch mechanisms. Alongside a collection of remarkable historic timepieces, highlights of the current collection will include the new Duometre models launched at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024, and the global launch of a new high-complication watch. Revealing the intellectual rigour and technical ingenuity that lie at the very foundation of watchmaking, the exhibition tells the intriguing story of precision in four chapters.

The Precision of Production and Decoration tells the origin story of how the Maison’s founder translated his obsession with precision into inventions that were to lay the foundations for the modern watchmaking industry. It reveals how the founder’s spirit has driven the Manufacture for almost two centuries, harnessing cutting-edge technologies to enhance and complement the irreplaceable value of precise hand-craftsmanship. This chapter also explores the high-precision crafts employed in the decoration and finishing of movements and dials. The Precision of Chronometry identifies milestones in the Manufacture’s development of chronometer timepieces, from pocket watches in the 19th century, to today’s new models that are all certified under the rigorous 1000-Hour Control protocol. Chronometry means, simply, timekeeping accuracy, and this chapter reveals the deep research that must be undertaken to compensate for the challenges that a wristwatch faces during daily wear.

The Precision of Regulating Organs reveals the vital role of the regulating organ (namely, the balance wheel and hairspring). This is the beating heart of the watch that we find so fascinating to observe – and the regularity of that heartbeat, known as isochronism, is crucial to accurate timekeeping. Visitors will discover Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ceaseless research into the ideal forms of hairsprings and tourbillons, which have resulted in many patented inventions. The Precision of Complications explores why the addition of complications (additional functions, such as calendars, chronographs or minute repeaters) is a fundamental challenge to timekeeping precision because operating a complication disrupts the perfectly regular flow of energy from the mechanism’s barrel to its regulating organ. This chapter demonstrates how Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers have mastered the precision of complications and invented the Duometre system, which ensures that the operation of a complication has no impact on the timekeeping function.

A Hands-on Educational Journey

Revealed at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024, Jaeger-LeCoultre is pleased to count a new Discovery Workshop to be offered by the Atelier d’Antoine.  Focusing on precision – a pillar of the Maison since it was founded in 1833 – this programme presents a great opportunity to discover why precision is crucially important at every stage of the watchmaking process.

As its name suggests, the Precision Pioneer Discovery Workshop reveals the true meaning of precision in watchmaking, the challenges that mitigate against it, and the exceptional degree of skill required to achieve precision at the highest level. Rarely showcased in its own right, precision is fundamental to every stage of the watchmaking process from raw materials to finished timepieces. Participants in this dynamic and interactive Precision Pioneer Discovery Workshop will encounter many surprises, including the rare opportunity to try a key watchmaking skill with their own hands, guided by an expert from Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Precision Pioneer Discovery Workshop will be available to all visitors by appointment.

A Celebration of Craftsmanship

 Art and Gastronomy Meet Fine Watchmaking

Two collaborations initiated by Jaeger-LeCoultre under its Made of Makers programme will also be showcased as part of the exhibition. Through a series of collaborations with artists, designers and craftsmen from disciplines outside watchmaking, Made of Makers explores and extends the dialogue that naturally exists between horology and art. The programme has, to date, embraced the visual arts, gastronomy and music.

Translating the concept of ‘The Precision Pioneer’ yearly thematic into a captivating sensory journey, the Made of Makers programme commissioned the two-Michelin-starred, Dubai-based chef Himanshu Saini to create the Precision Atelier, a new gastronomic experience dedicated to the science of ingredients. The Precision Atelier offers a specially created menu of tasting bites matched to perfectly paired drinks, that take guests on a true adventure in taste and texture – a fascinating journey through layers of precisely blended and balanced flavours that evolve on the palate, with the added surprise of familiar ingredients taking on unexpected textures.

Dubai was chosen as the first stop on a tour of major world cities, which will continue throughout 2023 and beyond.

Showcasing a careful curated selection of the Manufacture’s most remarkable historic timepieces as well as its most recent celestially-inspired timepieces, the exhibition features multi-media installations that will take visitors on a virtual journey to the cosmos. It translates the wonders of the celestial world into art installations and multi-sensory experiences, while the Atelier d’Antoine, named after the Maison’s founder, Antoine LeCoultre, shares watchmaking know-how through hands-on educational workshops based on the Stellar Odyssey theme.

In the heart of the main pavilion beneath a geodesic dome, an immersive digital show takes visitors on a virtual journey through space and time, transporting them through infinite space and 13.7 billion years of time to reveal the mysteries of the cosmos in five episodes – from the origins of our known universe to the present day.

Among the highlights of The Stellar Odyssey is also a new art installation, Passengers: Through Time by the French visual artist, Guillaume Marmin, which makes its world debut in Dubai. Specially commissioned by Jaeger-LeCoultre, its endless reflections and astonishing perspectives invite visitors to reflect on the fundamental question of what time really is.

“Jaeger-LeCoultre’s celestial theme resonates very strongly with me because, working with light and sound, we are at the crossroads of scientific, artistic, philosophical, even mystical questions,” said the artist. “I also have a strong desire to take art out of the galleries and to invest the public space, so it’s a great privilege to invite a wider public to experience my art as part of The Stellar Odyssey.”

To enrich the Stellar Odyssey experience, Jaeger-LeCoultre asked world-renowned mixologist Matthias Giroud to create a special menu of soft cocktails. Regarded as an alchemist-artist in his field, Matthias has combined celestial inspiration with intriguing flavours from Jaeger-LeCoultre’s home in Switzerland’s Vallée de Joux. Enjoyed by guests during the opening event, these exceptional mocktails will also be offered to visitors during the 20 days of the exhibition.

Revealing the Mysteries of Astronomical Timekeeping in Eight Chapters

Within the main exhibition pavilion, The Stellar Odyssey explores the creative and cultural universe of astronomically-inspired watchmaking in eight chapters. Visitors begin by discovering the very origins of time, the impact of celestial phenomena on the way we measure it, and the origins of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s expertise in developing astronomical complications. Each of the five following chapters leads visitors through a different cosmic phenomenon, displaying rare historic watches as well as timepieces from the most recent collections to illustrate how the Manufacture has continually reinterpreted the movements of the stars and planets in the form of intricate complications that represent, measure and even predict celestial events directly on the wrist.

Enriching the Stellar Experience

It focuses on world-class creators who share Jaeger-LeCoultre’s values of creativity, expertise and precision and whose work explores new forms of expression through different and often unexpected materials and media. For The Stellar Odyssey, Jaeger-LeCoultre has commissioned projects by French multi-media artist Guillaume Marmin and world-renowned mixologist Matthias Giroud.

For his installation, Passengers: Through Time, Guillaume Marmin employs light, sound and movement in complex relationships that redefine traditional ideas of sculpture, space and time. As visitors walk through the work, infinite reflections and dizzying perspectives take them on a stellar excursion in which they are the protagonists, inviting reflection on the fundamental question of what time really is. For the Stellar Atelier, Matthias Giroud has created a menu of highly original soft cocktails inspired by the cosmos, taking his inspiration from the colours, temperatures and forms of the stars and planets, and blending familiar ingredients with intriguing scents and flavours from the Vallée de Joux.

In the Atelier d’Antoine, visitors can complete their journey of astral discovery by joining a hands-on Discovery Workshop that focuses on the wonder of astronomical complications and the celestial origins of time-keeping – a rare opportunity to gain deep insight and practical experience of this magical world.
