Presented in pink gold with a glowing green sunray-brushed dial and matching green alligator leather strap, this new rendition of the Rendez-Vous Dazzling Night & Day deftly marries the spirit of fine watchmaking with the codes of high jewellery. The radiance of 168 diamonds draws the eye to the rich colour of the dial.

On the bezel, 108 diamonds, form two concentric rings around the case. There is an airy quality to these glittering circles, thanks to the claw (or ‘griffe’) setting of the outer ring of 36 stones. A classical jewellery technique that requires great precision, claw setting is designed to maximise the presence of each stone by allowing light to pass through the diamonds from every angle while minimising the visible metal. The fine gold claws hold the diamonds high, giving the impression that they are floating around the watch case, rather than anchored to it. Completing the case, an inverted diamond is set into the winding crown and three diamonds are set on each of the four lugs.

On the dial, an inner circle of 47 diamonds draws the eye to the Night & Day indication. Set on a disc that rotates every 24 hours, a pink gold crescent moon with a backdrop of stars slowly alternates with a polished golden sun as night turns to day. Signature elements of the Rendez-Vous Dazzling add further refinement: hours are marked by applied Arabic numerals in the emblematic Floral style and polished golden hemispheres.

Set within the 36mm case, Calibre 898 is a self-winding mechanical movement developed and produced entirely in-house and providing a power reserve of 38 hours. The transparent sapphire case-back reveals some fine decoration and finishing in classical watchmaking style: blued screws, circular graining on the wheels, and Côtes de Genève on the plates and the open-worked pink gold winding rotor.

In 2022, the Rendez-Vous Dazzling Star recreates this enchanting celestial phenomenon on the wrist, thanks to an entirely new mechanism conceived and developed within the Manufacture. Activated by the movement of the wrist, the shooting star appears on the dial at random moments – usually four to six times per hour – its unpredictability making it even more special. To enjoy the enchanting display more often, the star may also be summoned on demand by turning the winding crown several times.

An Exquisite Display Evokes the Night Sky

Entirely made of blue Aventurine, the dial of the new Rendez-Vous Dazzling Star exquisitely captures the beauty of a star-studded night sky. In the centre, framed by a ring of diamonds, three discs are layered over each other. The first layer, an oval of Aventurine, conceals the shooting star when it is inactive. Beneath it is a circular disc of Aventurine with a cut-out of the shooting star; when activated, this disc spins, sending the star on its curving path across the upper dial. As the star passes, the cut-out reveals the deepest layer of the dial – a fixed disc of golden metal with a glowing gradient finish that accentuates the sense of movement.

Loyal to the codes of the Rendez-Vous collection, this central display is surrounded by a ring of applied numerals in the signature Floral font and applied hemispherical hour markers. The time is indicated on these scales by golden Floral hands. Surrounding the 36mm pink gold case, the Dazzling Rendez-Vous bezel forms two concentric rings. There’s an airy quality to these glittering circles, thanks to the prong (or ‘griffe’) setting of the outer ring of 36 stones. A classical jewellery technique introduced in the Rendez-Vous collection in 2019, it is an exquisite testament to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s gem-setting expertise. Fine gold claws hold the diamonds high, allowing light to pass through them from every angle, maximising the presence of each stone while minimising the visible metal. To complete the watch case, the upper surfaces of the lugs are set with diamonds and an inverted diamond is set into the crown.

The rich blue of the dial is complemented by a shiny blue alligator strap with a folding buckle, or by a sumptuous, fully-set pink gold bracelet specially designed for the Rendez-Vous Dazzling Star. The bracelet’s lozenge-shaped links are grain-set with a total of 436 diamonds (for 4.88 carats) and linked seamlessly together, to wrap around the wrist with the suppleness of a ribbon.

Inspired and Created in the Vallée de Joux

To create a mechanism that expresses an unpredictable phenomenon is a fascinating challenge for watchmaking as it appears to defy the laws of horology – a world where everything is expressed through precisely calibrated, mathematical rhythms. Drawing on almost 190 years of expertise accumulated within the Manufacture, the engineers and watchmakers of Jaeger-LeCoultre have developed the new in-house automatic calibre 734, incorporating the new shooting star mechanism. In doing so, they have succeeded in an unprecedented feat of capturing a random cosmic phenomenon in a watchmaking complication.

To coincide with the 76th Venice International Film Festival – La Biennale di Venezia, La Grande Maison presents a dazzling new interpretation of that most beloved of astronomical complications, the moon phase.

DAZZLING RENDEZ-VOUS MOON

The moon: Luna. Symbol of romance and femininity. The source of nature’s ebb and flow, the cycle of the seasons, and inspiration for artists and poets. The closest heavenly body to Earth, yet still so enigmatic.

Dazzling Rendez-Vous Moon pays tribute to feminine strength and beauty, presenting La Grande Maison’s emblematic moon phase function in a magnificent new setting. Echoing the serene beauty of the night sky, the icy sparkle of diamonds is warmed by pink gold and complemented by glowing white mother of pearl.

This new, fully gem-set interpretation of Dazzling Rendez-Vous follows the launch of Dazzling Rendez-Vous Night & Day (in white gold or pink gold) and Dazzling Rendez-Vous Moon (in white gold) at SIHH in January this year, followed by the ruby-set Dazzling Rendez-Vous Red, on the occasion of Shanghai International Film Festival in June.

The Dazzling Rendez-Vous Moon bezel comprises 108 diamonds, forming two concentric rings around the watch case. There’s an airy quality to these glittering circles, thanks to the claw (or ‘griffes’) setting of the outer ring of 36 stones. A classical jewellery technique – indeed, it was employed by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s craftsmen for Model 101, the celebrated High Jewellery design of the 1920s – it requires great precision. Designed to maximise the presence of each stone, the setting allows light to pass through the diamonds from every angle, while minimising the visible metal. In Dazzling Rendez-Vous the fine gold claws hold the diamonds high, giving an impression that they’re almost floating around the watch case, rather than anchored to it. To complete the case, diamonds are also set into the lugs and the winding crown.

The sumptuous, fully-set bracelet is a masterpiece of the jewellery crafts: Jaeger-LeCoultre’s gem-setters have bezel-set 310 diamonds (22.27 carats), linking them seamlessly together to form a river of diamonds that wraps around the wrist as softly as a ribbon.

The moonlight-white mother-of-pearl dial abounds with subtle details: on an outer ring, mirror-polished golden spheres mark the hours; on the main hours ring, each of the applied pink gold numerals is set on a separate mother-of-pearl ‘tile’, all anchored by an inner circle of 47 diamonds.

It is a perfect setting for a romantic and lovely moon phase display. Visible through an opening at 6 o’clock, the new design features a shiny mother-of-pearl moon floating against a starry aventurine night sky, and playing hide-and-seek behind a cloud of carved mother-of-pearl as it cycles through its different phases over the course of a month.

Uniting La Grande Maison’s artistic skills with its renowned technical acumen, the Dazzling Rendez-Vous Moon is powered by the Calibre 925/A1 – a self-winding mechanical movement developed and produced in-house and providing a power reserve of 38 hours. The transparent sapphire case-back reveals some fine decoration and finishing in the classical style: blued screws, circular graining, Côtes de Genève and the pink gold signature winding rotor with Côtes de Genève decoration.

With Dazzling Rendez-Vous Red, Jaeger-LeCoultre presents its emblematic Night & Day function in a radiant new setting that combines pink gold, white mother-of-pearl, white diamonds and the rich glow of rubies.

Created in the spirit of jewellery watches, Dazzling Rendez-Vous Red showcases La Grande Maison’s uncompromising attention to detail. To highlight the impressive rubies that encircle the watch case, its master jewellers have opted for a prong setting, one of the most demanding of jewellery techniques. Requiring extreme precision, each of the 36 rubies is held in place by tiny gold spikes. The master gem-setters spend hours meticulously positioning the stones one by one, mounting them high, to minimise the presence of the metal and allow light to pass through the stones from all angles. This creates an impression that the rubies could almost be floating, and intensifies their crimson-red glow.

A circle of brilliant-cut diamonds completes the bezel and within it, gleaming like moonlight, is the silvery-white mother-of-pearl dial – a perfect foil for the Night & Day display. Visible through an opening at 6 o’clock, a golden crescent moon alternates with a shining sun, as night turns to day in an endless dance of time.

The row of 72 diamonds on the bezel is echoed by a ring of 47 smaller diamonds on the inner dial. Set between these diamond circles, the pink gold Floral numerals stand out in warm contrast to the iridescent white dial. Adding a final flourish, 12 diamonds are set in the lugs and a further diamond in the crown.

As with the dial and case, Jaeger-LeCoultre allows no compromise inside the watch. Visible through the transparent sapphire case-back, Calibre 898B/1 is a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and produced within the Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture.
