The inaugural cycle began with a month-long residential masterclass based at the studio of the renowned Portuguese contemporary artist Joana Vasconcelos and brought together 20 duos of Master craftsmen and newly graduated talents (Fellows). Workshops in creative skills were complemented by a design case study presented by Jaeger-LeCoultre, and a bespoke programme focused on business skills and entrepreneurial vision presented and certified by ESSEC Business School. Set in a prime location at Maximilianstraße 24, the boutique spans two floors, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of watchmaking, as well as the remarkable story of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s heritage, expertise, spirit of innovation and creativity since the Maison was founded in 1833.

The boutique is located within "Riemerschmid-Block" – an impressive 19th-century building designed by the renowned architect Georg Friedrich Christian Bürklein and now listed under special protection as an historic monument. An innovative design concept fuses tradition and modernity, translating the spirit of La Grande Maison into a welcoming environment that brings the Manufacture closer to its guests. The emphasis on organic materials and natural colours evokes the serenity and beauty of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s home in the Vallée de Joux.

On entering the boutique, guests encounter a display area presenting Jaeger-LeCoultre’s current collections, including the Atmos clock. Enthusiasts can discover more of La Grande Maison’s extraordinary heritage as the creator of more than 1,400 calibres, exploring the intricacies of watch mechanisms through an interactive calibre wall that takes them on a virtual three-dimensional dive into several of the Manufacture’s most emblematic calibres.

Guests are then drawn into an area dedicated to Reverso, where a display of limited editions and high-complication models is complemented by the almost infinite possibilities for personalising the case back. The personalisation story continues in the next area, where an interactive Strap Wall invites clients to discover their own perfect pairing of watch case with strap material, colour and stitching.

The ground floor is enriched by a “Cabinet de Curiosités”, which invites the guests to explore the strong watchmaking expertise of the Maison through a variety of noteworthy inventions. In the middle of the installation, the “Manufacture Wall” reinforces the storytelling by highlighting the hundreds of craftsmen, representing 180 different watchmaking skills gathered under the same roof at the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. An intimate VIP lounge on the first floor will extend the journey by offering exclusive brand moments and personalized client treatment.

The new Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique is located at Maximilianstraße 24, 80539 München and will be open to guests Monday through Friday from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm and on Saturdays from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.

boutique,Munich,manufacture,carousel

Presented at the 1931 Cinema, a specially created venue at the newly restored Battersea Power Station, the inspiring sound-and-light show celebrates the Golden Ratio – the unique mathematical formula that defines the aesthetic harmony that we humans are instinctively drawn to. The ground-breaking British musician, TØKIO M¥ERS, has composed a new soundtrack especially for the show, commissioned by Jaeger-LeCoultre through its Made of Makers programme.

Presenting Design in a New Cultural Context

With The Golden Ratio Musical Show and 1931 Cinema, Jaeger-LeCoultre continues to expand the cultural conversation around design and watchmaking, exploring their elemental links through the lens of the Reverso watch, which is widely acknowledged as an icon of 20th century design. Taking its name from the year that the Reverso was born, the 1931 Cinema offers guests a deep immersion in the style and ambience of that period. Enhancing the experience, refreshments will be provided by the 1931 Café. The outdoor cinema concept also pays homage to the world’s first drive-in movie theatre, which opened in 1933 and spawned a new form of entertainment that was to become embedded in popular culture.

The Art Deco-inspired design of the 1931 Cinema will be enhanced by its location at Battersea Power Station, one of London’s most spectacular Art Deco buildings and a new retail, leisure and cultural destination for the capital. Originally conceived as a purely functional and box-like structure, its beautiful exterior is the work of British architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, who was commissioned to redesign it, adding Art Deco glamour and the four iconic chimneys, which are synonymous of the London skyline. Construction of the Power Station began in 1929 with the first half, Station A completed in 1933, and the second half, Station B in 1955. At its peak Battersea Power Station produced a fifth of London’s electricity.

An Enthralling Sound-and-Light Show

The centrepiece of the 1931 Cinema is The Golden Ratio Musical Show, a spectacular sound-and-light show projected onto a giant screen of falling water. The 10-minute show tells the story of the Golden Ratio in four chapters: tracing the path from the observation of nature and the hidden harmonies that connect its most beautiful forms, to the scientific examination of the mystical properties of beauty and the quest to define their geometry, which led to the discovery of the mathematical formula 1.618, also known as Phi (φ). It continues by exploring how this ‘golden number’ or ‘divine proportion’ has marked European cultural history, architecture and art ever since it was identified, and concludes by presenting the Reverso, created at the height of the Art Deco movement, which expresses the spirit of the Golden Ratio with utmost eloquence.

A Specially Commissioned Soundtrack by TØKIO M¥ERS

For The Golden Ratio Musical Show, Jaeger-LeCoultre commissioned a soundtrack from the British musician and composer TØKIO M¥ERS, who is gaining worldwide recognition as one of the most original artists to emerge in recent years. A graduate of the Royal College of Music, celebrated for his experimental fusions of classical music with cinematic, hip-hop, dance, ‘90s soul and other influences, TØKIO M¥ERS is also a gifted pianist and percussionist, and a performer of immense range and dynamic power. Through compositions that transcend time and genres, he creates dialogues between the past and present, redefining what classical music can be.

Having taken inspiration from time spent at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture in the Swiss Jura mountains, TØKIO M¥ERS says that he wrote the piece “with the explicit intention of amplifying the emotional impact of the digital projection”. He describes the new work as “a short symphony in four chapters, or movements, that takes the listener on a powerful journey”. Reinforcing the Golden Ratio theme, he translated the number 1.618 into a tempo of 161.8 beats per minute. “I incorporated the Golden Ratio as the driving tempo throughout the piece. I’ve never written in this tempo before and it’s a wonderful tempo to write in,” he says.

London Dates on a World Tour

Following its debut during Shanghai International Film Festival in early June, The Golden Ratio Musical Show and 1931 Cinema began a world tour in Los Angeles. The London season runs from 14th – 17th September at Battersea Power Station and it will be open to the public, free of charge, offering the opportunity to experience design and watchmaking in an entirely new cultural context.

On the night of the 14th September, at an invitation-only gala, TØKIO M¥ERS will give a live performance of his soundtrack. He will be accompanied by The Bourne Orchestra, a collaboration between musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Chamber Orchestra. This will be followed by a concert of his other work, accompanied by the signature lighting that make his solo performances so dynamic.

The 1931 Cinema will be open free of charge to the public from the 14th September to the 17th September, with The Golden Ratio Musical Show running all day on a 20-minute cycle.

Following its London season, the 1931 Cinema and The Golden Ratio Musical Show will travel to Dubai.

The Golden Ratio Musical Show

Battersea Power Station, London, SW8 5BN

Opening day on 14th September from 11am to 6pm

From 15th – 16th September from 11am to 10pm

17th September from 11am to 9pm

Open to public. Presented in an inspiring open-air venue, the spectacular sound and light show celebrates the Golden Ratio – the unique mathematical formula that defines the aesthetic harmony that we, as humans, are instinctively drawn to. The ground-breaking British musician TØKIO M¥ERS has composed a new soundtrack especially for the show, commissioned by Jaeger-LeCoultre through its Made of Makers programme.

Presenting Design in a New Cultural Context

With The Golden Ratio Musical Show, Jaeger-LeCoultre continues to expand the cultural conversation around design and watchmaking, exploring their elemental links through the lens of the Reverso watch, which is widely acknowledged as an icon of 20th-century design. The 1931 Cinema, the show’s specially designed setting, offers guests a deep immersion in the style and ambience of the Art Deco period, when the Reverso was created. Enhancing the experience, refreshments will be provided by the nomadic 1931 Café. Constructed in an open-air setting at Westfield Century City on Santa Monica Boulevard, the outdoor concept also pays homage to the world’s first drive-in movie theatre, which opened in 1933 and spawned a new form of entertainment that was to become deeply embedded in American popular culture.

An Enthralling Sound-and-Light Show

The centrepiece of the 1931 Cinema is The Golden Ratio Musical Show, a spectacular sound-and-light show projected onto a giant screen of falling water. The 10-minute production tells the story of the Golden Ratio in four chapters, tracing the path from the observation of nature and the hidden harmonies that connect its most beautiful forms, to the scientific examination of the mystical properties of beauty and the quest to define their geometry, which led to the discovery of the mathematical formula 1.618, also known as Phi (φ). It continues by exploring how this ‘golden number’ or ‘divine proportion’ has marked cultural history, architecture and art and concludes by presenting the Reverso, created at the height of the Art Deco movement, which expresses the spirit of the Golden Ratio with utmost eloquence.

A Specially Commissioned Soundtrack by TØKIO M¥ERS

For The Golden Ratio Musical Show, Jaeger-LeCoultre commissioned a soundtrack from the ground-breaking British musician and composer TØKIO M¥ERS, who is gaining worldwide recognition as one of the most original artists to emerge in recent years.

Having taken inspiration from time spent at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture in the Swiss Jura Mountains, TØKIO M¥ERS says that he wrote the new piece “with the explicit intention of amplifying the emotional impact of the digital projection”. He describes the work as “a short symphony in four chapters, or movements, that takes the listener on a powerful journey”. Amplifying the Golden Ratio theme, he translated the number 1.618 into a tempo of 161.8 beats per minute. “I incorporated the Golden Ratio as the driving tempo throughout the piece. I’ve never written in this tempo before and it’s a wonderful tempo to write in,” he says.

First Stop on a World Tour

The Golden Ratio Musical Show begins a world tour in Los Angeles, following its debut in Shanghai. The event opens on June 22 with an invitation-only gala, during which TØKIO M¥ERS will give a live performance of his soundtrack. He will be accompanied by the acclaimed L.E.Orchband, a Los Angeles-based collective of world-class musicians from leading orchestras on both sides of the Atlantic. Following this, TØKIO M¥ERS will perform a concert of his other work, complete with the signature lighting that makes his solo performances so dynamic.

During its Los Angeles season, the 1931 Cinema will be open free of charge to the public from June 22-25, offering the opportunity to experience design and watchmaking in an entirely new cultural context. The space will be open throughout the day from 10 am–10pm, with The Golden Ratio Musical Show beginning at 7pm and running on a 20-minute cycle until 10pm.

Following its Los Angeles season, the 1931 Cinema and The Golden Ratio Musical Show will travel to London and Dubai during 2023.

THE GOLDEN RATIO MUSICAL SHOW,tokio myers,Made of Makers,Los Angeles,events,carousel

Marking its presence at the 25th edition of the Festival, which runs from 9–18 June 2023, the Swiss fine watchmaking Maison will welcome guests to a special evening featuring the world premiere of The Reverso Musical Show.

Preserving Cinematic Heritage

This year marks the 12th year of the Film Restoration programme, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ongoing collaboration with Shanghai International Film Festival to protect China’s cinematic heritage for future generations. The collaboration reflects La Grande Maison’s own commitment to the preservation of heritage: in a dedicated restoration workshop established within its Manufacture, specialist watchmakers breathe new life into historic timepieces that might otherwise be lost forever. Under the Film Restoration programme 16 films have so far been preserved, spanning many different genres and including some of the most seminal works in Chinese cinema of the past 80 years. Among the most recently restored are Outside the Window (1973) directed by Sung Tsun-shou, A Soul Haunted by Painting (1994) by Han Shuqin, Flowers of Shanghai (1998) by Hou Hsiao-hsien and Hu Sang’s 1956 masterpiece, New Year Sacrifice.

The latest film to be restored, Early Spring in February (1963) is the best-known work by the great Third Generation director, Xie Tieli.

Celebrating the Filmmaker’s Art

Having a deep affinity with the world of film through a shared passion for both artistic and technical savoir-faire, Jaeger-LeCoultre has long been a supporter of the cinematic arts in China. For La Grande Maison, the protection, preservation and transmission of craft – in its many forms – is a fundamental value, and it is proud to maintain its commitment to the exceptional creativity represented by the art and craft of filmmaking in China. The prestigious and highly coveted Glory to the Filmmaker Award made its debut at Shanghai International Film Festival in 2018 to honour Chinese filmmakers who have made outstanding contributions in their field. Recognised as one of the leading talents of the young generation in China, the actor, singer and dancer brings a compelling presence to this new series of photographs and videos.

Under the theme ‘Moments Made of Gold’, the campaign celebrates those special moments in life that feel charged with positive energy and create golden memories. Modern, elegant and visually arresting, it has been shot in a minimal yet richly dramatic setting of red and gold – colours that symbolise good fortune, happiness and wealth and capture the joy and vibrancy of Lunar New Year celebrations. Centre stage is dominated by a large golden sculpture based on Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new Art Deco-inspired alphabet created by Alex Trochut, the letter ‘M’ signifying the Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Moon, which Jackson Yee wears on his wrist.

“The New Year is a time for joyful celebration but also for quiet reflection on the golden moments that we have already experienced and those than we can create in the future,” says Jackson. “To me, this watch has special meaning because the moon governs our Chinese New Year but also because its timeless elegance is like an anchor in a world that seems to be spinning faster all the time. With the change of the year, it symbolises the relationship between reality, time and our dreams for the future.”

With moon-phase and date displays being the natural choice of complications to mark the Lunar New Year, the Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Moon unites the technical virtuosity of the self-winding Calibre 983 with the enduring beauty of a pink gold case and eggshell-white dial. Harmonious and perfectly balanced, the dial is defined by the display of Northern and Southern Hemisphere moon phases in the upper dial and the tourbillon in the lower dial. It is encircled by a peripheral date display, indicated by a red-tipped hand that makes a 90-degree jump over the tourbillon from the 15th to 16th of every month. Underlining the sense of refinement, the shape of the Dauphine hands is echoed by the elongated arrow-shape of the applied pink gold indexes. With an elegance that transcends the ages, this is a timepiece to treasure over the course of countless new years.

ambassadors,jackson yee,carousel

Set in a prime location in Beverly Hills, the boutique invites visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of watchmaking and the remarkable story of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s heritage, expertise and spirit of innovation and creativity.

In keeping with the innovative design concept that made its debut in the new Shanghai flagship in January, the new boutique translates the spirit of La Grande Maison into a welcoming environment that brings the Manufacture closer to its visitors. The façade has been inspired by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s celebrated Reverso, featuring sweeping lines that evoke the Art Deco design and swivelling movement of its case, while the interior emphasises organic materials and natural colours, fusing tradition and modernity to evoke the serenity and beauty of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s home in the Vallée de Joux. The space has designed to lead visitors on a journey of exploration into the fascinating story of watchmaking, as well as the Maison’s own story.

On entering the boutique, visitors encounter a display area presenting Jaeger-LeCoultre’s current collections, including the Atmos clock. Enthusiasts can explore the intricacies of watch mechanisms – and in the process discover more of La Grande Maison’s extraordinary heritage as the creator of more than 1,270 calibres – with an interactive calibre wall that takes them on a virtual three-dimensional dive into several of the Manufacture’s most emblematic calibres.

Visitors then are drawn into an area dedicated to Reverso, where a display of limited editions and high-complication models is complemented by an inspiring presentation of the collection’s heritage, and the almost infinite possibilities for personalising the case back. The personalisation story continues in the next area, where an interactive Strap Wall invites clients to handle the many options and discover their own perfect pairing of watch case with strap material, color and stitching.

Before reaching the intimate VIP lounge, visitors will encounter an area that celebrates the 181 different skills assembled under one roof at the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. A watchmaker offers visitors the opportunity to discover the extraordinary technical skills embodied in every watch movement, while an exquisite display of the Métiers Rares® celebrates La Grande Maison’s artistic creativity and mastery of the decorative crafts.

The new Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique is located at 430 North Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California and will be open to guests Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 6:00pm and on Sunday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.

boutique,Los Angeles,Art Deco,Rodeo Drive,carousel

Starring Kim Woo-Bin, a friend of the Maison, it focuses on the notion of time and its relationship to two natural environments – lakes and celestial.

In the video, Kim Woo-Bin is immersed in each of these environments in turn, wearing the new Polaris Perpetual Calendar, as he narrates an evocative text that reflects on concepts of perpetual movement and action – the eternal cycles and ever-changing sense of time, as expressed by the natural world.

Woven throughout, glimpses of different celestial bodies remind us that our sense of passing time, as well as its measurement by calendars, clocks and watches, is governed by the rhythms of the cosmos and the regular cycles of astronomical phenomena – a subtle link to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Stellar Odyssey.

“When we immerse ourselves in nature and really notice its rhythms, we understand time in a different way,” says Kim Woo-Bin. “And this understanding adds so much meaning to every watch that we wear – but especially the Polaris Perpetual Calendar, as it translates the rhythms of the celestial bodies into days, months and years.”

Keeping Perpetual Time

In 2022, Jaeger-LeCoultre has enriched its sporty-chic Polaris line with a perpetual calendar for the first time. Elegant and visually striking, the dial of the Polaris Perpetual Calendar is lacquered in a deep gradient-blue colour, taking its aesthetic cues from the Polaris Mariner Memovox with assertive hour indexes, skeletonised hands and slightly recessed subdials for the calendar displays.

With an emphasis on balance and legibility, the date, day and month indications are balanced by a moon-phase display at 6 o’clock – a pleasing reminder that calendars had their origins in astronomical phenomena.

For Kim Woo-Bin, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Perpetual Calendar may be the ideal timepiece: “With life in this modern world moving so fast, it becomes all the more important to anchor ourselves in time,” he explains. “The Polaris Perpetual Calendar not only provides all of the information I need, but it can also adapt to any situation or environment with elegance.”

Thanks to the new in-house automatic movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 868AA, the classical Northern Hemisphere moon-phase display is complemented by a retrograde display of moon phases in the Southern Hemisphere. Enhancing the practical utility of the Polaris Perpetual Calendar, the new movement has an extended power reserve, offering 70 hours of autonomy. To complement the elegant and visually striking dial, the 42mm case is available in a choice of steel or pink gold, and features a ‘rapid-change’ attachment for the interchangeable straps. In addition to two straps offered with each watch – rubber and alligator with the pink gold model; rubber and a steel bracelet with the steel model – a range of calf leather straps enables wearers to easily personalise the watch and adapt it for every daily adventure.

ambassadors,JLC-Polaris,Kim Woo-Bin,Polaris

<pp:caseid>490942</pp:caseid>

AN IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENT THAT BRINGS THE MANUFACTURE TO VISITORS IN AN ENTIRELY NEW WAY

Jaeger-LeCoultre is pleased to announce the opening of a new flagship boutique at Shanghai’s (neighborhood) in K11 art mall. The boutique represents a new chapter for La Grande Maison, translating its spirit into a warm and inviting environment that brings the Manufacture to the other side of the world, taking visitors on a journey into its heart.

In homage to watchmaking, the layout space was conceived as a series of interconnected circles and curves, reminiscent of the components of a watch movement. The linked spaces create different layers of interaction for visitors as they intuitively follow the path through the store, gaining a deeper understanding of the Maison as they move further into it. With an emphasis on organic materials and natural colours, the décor fuses tradition and modernity, evoking the serenity and beauty of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s home in the Vallée de Joux.

Facing Shanghai’s South Huangpi Road, the boutique’s façade is a new expression of the Maison, made of glass shingles inspired by the tavaillon (wooden tile) cladding used on traditional Vallée de Joux buildings to provide protection from the harsh winter climate. Fusing tradition and technology, the glass shingles are back-lit to create a constantly changing play of colour and sense of movement. This fascinating display evokes the glass-fronted northern façade of the Manufacture, which reflects its surroundings, changing appearance according to the weather and time of day.

On entering the boutique, the visitor encounters display cases containing the highlights of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s current collections. Alongside the vitrines a fascinating, interactive calibre wall elevates the space beyond the classic retail environment, immediately drawing the visitor to discover some of the most emblematic calibres that underline the Maison’s authority as “the watchmakers’ watchmaker”. After discovering the physical calibres, then exploring them in depth through the digital showcases, visitors can continue the learning experience on WeChat, with more calibres presented in augmented reality.

Drawn naturally into the second area of the boutique, visitors can explore the power of personalisation. A history of the Reverso shows why, more than any other watch, it represents the special pleasure of owning a timepiece that holds a secret, personalised emblem and thus truly belongs to its wearer. Alongside the Reverso display, an interactive Strap Bar offers more options for personalisation, inviting visitors to handle and play with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s complete strap collection for all models.

The visitor’s path then leads to a deeper exploration of the Manufacture, and the tremendous range of métiers and watchmaking gathered under its roof. A series of evocative and educational videos introduces them to the beautiful world of the Vallée de Joux and initiates them into the secrets of enamelling, engraving and anglage (champfering/edging), as well as design and the research & development process that continually gives birth to innovations.

Deep in the heart of the store, visitors arrive at the Atelier d’Antoine, where they are invited to discover the most refined expression of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s know-how, not only through fascinating displays but also through Discovery Workshops that offer direct hands-on experience of watchmaking.

An exact replica of its counterpart within the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre, this is the first permanent installation of an Atelier d’Antoine outside Switzerland. The discovery Workshops provide an opportunity to explore the world of Swiss fine watchmaking in a new way. Hosted by a watchmaking expert, the workshops blend academic education and hands-on experience in a dynamic format that encourages interaction. Participants will dive deep into the heart of watch movements to understand how they work; they will discover the myriad technical and creative skills required to produce fine watches, the many different stages involved in their fabrication, and the artistic crafts employed in haute horlogerie. They will also learn about the past, present and future of watchmaking at Jaeger-LeCoultre and in the Vallée de Joux and will be invited to use larger-scale models to try to replicate the work of the Maison’s highly skilled watchmakers.

The first programme offered at Atelier d’Antoine in the Maison Flagship store will be the Reverso Discovery Workshop, during which participants will dive deep into the Reverso archives and go hands-on with a variety of models. Later, the Sound Maker Discovery Workshop and Masterclasses will also be offered.

One wall of the Atelier d’Antoine space is dedicated to a Cabinet of Curiosities, which showcases three pillars of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s expertise: Celestial complications, The Soundmaker and Precision. Alongside this, a display dedicated to the Métiers Rares reveals in more depth how a Reverso can be transformed into a personalised work of art through enamelling and engraving, showcasing the many steps of these processes.

More than just a boutique, the new Global Flagship boutique invites visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of watchmaking and the remarkable story of Jaeger-LeCoultre, taking a deep dive into the Maison’s heritage, its watchmaking expertise and its spirit of innovation and creativity.

Atelier d’Antoine Workshops may be booked online here.

flagship,boutique,k11

As the film moves between the two settings, the actor flips the Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon on his wrist to reveal its second, contrasting face. The second time zone on the reverse side subtly underlines the sense of reaching a new point.

These turning points are the essence of who we really are – the transcendent moments in our life’s journey that take us from where and what we are, to reveal what we can become. The moments when everything clicks beautifully into place – symbolised by the gentle and satisfying click of the Reverso as it locks into its new position.

Moving at a gentle pace through visually beguiling settings, the film explores abstraction and reality, nature and the man-made – revealing the beauty of each, and capturing the essence of the Reverso.

The Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon was chosen for this film because it so perfectly embodies the Manufacture’s never-ending quest for excellence and innovation. Uniting a flying tourbillon with the Duoface concept for the first time, it elevated the Reverso to a new level of refinement and sophistication, both technically and aesthetically.

For Nicholas, the Reverso has a special appeal: “The two faces really express my life: the character I play when I work, and the person I am when I’m not working.”

Speaking of turning points in his own life, Nicholas emphasises the power of focus and discipline, balanced by pivotal moments of quiet reflection: “Being immersed in nature – walking in the woods, or going surfing – puts me into a state of peace, where I feel at one with the world. I come back refreshed, revitalised and ready to get back into action.”

In this new film, the turning of the Reverso symbolises every such pivotal moment – and, in doing so, is an exquisite celebration of our human potential.

MANIFESTO

Every story is made of moments.

But a true story has this one moment: Its turning point.

This moment when you summon the past to find the inner strength and the courage to go further.

This moment where time gathers. Every wish, every hope, all our experiences reunited in a heartbeat. And nothing will ever be the same again.

It's all about constant dedication.

And at this point, all it takes is one final inspiration, one final push, to overcome this moment of truth…and finally reach the point, where the past is the past, the future ready to unfold, and the story ready to be told.

Reverso

ABOUT NICHOLAS HOULT

Nicholas Hoult has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors. Known for blockbuster films like the X-MEN franchise as well as for award-winning films like THE FAVOURITE, his upcoming projects reflect his agility with appearances in international franchises as well as character-driven dramas.

Hoult can most recently be seen in the critically-acclaimed, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Emmy nominated Hulu series, THE GREAT. His performance earned him Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations. He will appear in season two of the series, for which he serves as an Executive Producer. The journey begins with a unique heritage piece: the Music Box made by the founder, Antoine LeCoultre, and his father, that marked the beginning of La Grande Maison’s journey in chiming timepieces. As visitors tour the exhibition, they enjoy the evolution in both technical skill and artistic expression, from pocket watches to minute repeater wrist watches and the Memovox, along with special pieces from the Atelier des Métiers Rares® (Rare Handcrafts Workshop).

At the heart of the exhibition, a ‘Sound Sculpture’ installation commissioned by Jaeger-LeCoultre from the Swiss contemporary artist, Zimoun, is making its Korean debut. In this fascinating work, Zimoun encapsulates the universe of sound – within the Manufacture and in the natural world surrounding it – that is so intrinsic to the spirit of Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Zimoun employs simple raw materials and repurposed industrial components, including the small DC motors, thin wires, MDF panels, and metal discs that compose the watches of Jaeger-LeCoultre – and, in doing so, redefines traditional ideas of sculpture, movement and sound, drawing the audience into an almost transcendent world of sensory experience.

Acclaimed actor Kim Woo-Bin, a new Friend of Maison, joined in celebrating the opening of the exhibition and meeting with the press. “Throughout the exhibition, I could feel and experience the heritage of Jaeger-LeCoultre in a new way, and I was amazed by its beautiful timepieces”, he remarked after touring the exhibits.

Open to the public by reservation, The Sound Maker exhibition by Jaeger-LeCoultre is being held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the design and fashion hub of Seoul. As the official partner, Jaeger-LeCoultre will host a charity dinner at the West Bund Art Center, and donate a specially customised timepiece for public auction, in support of the restoration of Chinese classic films. In the pursuit of technical sophistication and artistry, Jaeger-LeCoultre draws inspiration from peaceful nature, putting its heart and soul into the art of time. This edition marks nine years of involvement between Jaeger-LeCoultre and the Shanghai International Film Festival, as well as a tribute to filmmaking, which will offer an artistic experience for all guests of honour from across the world.

A Rendez-Vous with Flowers of Shanghai

The Manufacture's master watchmakers are deeply influenced and inspired by the natural world, artfully combining enamelling, engraving, gem-setting, and guilloché preserved by the Manufacture's Rare Handcrafts (“Métiers Rares®”), to achieve a balance between nature and watchmaking.

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s explorations into fine watchmaking came from a tradition of precision that is shared by the cinematic world. Each timepiece donated for the charity auctions over the past years, represents Jaeger-LeCoultre’s esteem for the art of cinema, as well as a contribution to it. Every restored classic Chinese film illustrates Jaeger-LeCoultre’s passion and dedication to the art of time.

This year, the ‘Rendez-Vous Moon Medium Tribute to Cinema Unique Piece SIFF 2019’ for the charity auction Gala is decorated with 107 elegant and discreet diamonds on the bezel and dial, a pink-gold case, pink-gold applied hour markers and a silvered guilloché dial. The moon phase displayed at 6 o’clock has a new feminine expression of the moon, with a golden polished moon and stars on a red lacquered sky. Underneath, the cloud is also guilloché. The pink gold Floral applied numerals are true to the Rendez-Vous design codes.

Over the past nine years, in collaboration with the Shanghai International Film Festival, Jaeger-LeCoultre has restored dozens of Chinese classics, including ‘The Spring River Flows East’, ‘Two Stage Sisters’, ‘A Better Tomorrow’, ‘Endless Love’, and ‘Outside the Window’, as well as ‘Flowers of Shanghai’ which will be premiered this year. Both film restoration and watchmaking require patience and precision from the artists, as well as concentration on technical sophistication with aesthetic finesse. No matter how long it takes to restore “time” and indicate “time”, the fine watchmaking of Jaeger-LeCoultre strives to push the boundaries of precision.

A Celebration of Cinema

In 2018 the “Glory to the Filmmaker Award”, which first featured at the Venice International Film Festival, made its debut at the Shanghai International Film Festival, commissioned by Chinese filmmaker Joan Chen to pay tribute to the outstanding achievements of Chinese filmmakers in film art creation. This year, the Jaeger‑LeCoultre “Glory to the Filmmaker Award” made its second appearance at the Shanghai International Film Festival, to continuously support the growth of the Chinese film industry, and to honour artists that have made tremendous contributions to the development of filmmaking. As partner of the Shanghai International Film Festival Jaeger-LeCoultre will join Chinese filmmakers in writing a new chapter in the history of cinema.

Rendez-Vous,Cinema,shanghai,Film Festival,Glory to the filmmaker,Auction piece,Award,carousel

During the opening of the Shanghai International Film Festival, Jaeger-LeCoultre will host a gala dinner, at which a charitable auction will be held to contribute to the restoration of classic Chinese films, as well as a themed exhibition that embodies the brand’s spirit at the Expo I-Pavilion. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award, initiated with and for the Venice International Film Festival, will debut in China, honoring pioneer filmmakers who have made breakthroughs in Chinese cinematics. Cinema and Watchmaking share the values of the art of time and the imprint of style. With its pledge of authenticity and long pursuit for fine watchmaking at heart, Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrates its 185th anniversary while paying tribute to the art of filmmaking. Yet again, guests from all over the world will gather in Shanghai, to witness this memorable reunion.

Exquisite Craftsmanship Shines like a Star

The 21st Shanghai International Film Festival joyfully coincides with the 185th anniversary of Jaeger-LeCoultre. The endearing partnership endows this occasion with even greater significance. Unique savoir-faire and craftsmanship is the true faith coming from the heart of Jaeger-LeCoultre, which expands from fine watchmaking to an even greater world. Filmmakers tell a story through the lens, while watchmakers tell their story through their beloved creations: the story of the origin, history, specialty and culture of the brand. Moreover, greater stories are transferred from the wearer to their precious timepieces. At the 15th Shanghai International Film Festival 6 years ago, Jaeger-LeCoultre launched the Rendez-Vous collection. This year, the Rendez-Vous Night & Day Tribute to Cinema, created for this unique anniversary, will make its appearance at the exhibition during the festival. The Rendez-Vous Night & Day Tribute to Cinema is a limited edition of only 100 pieces comprised of a rose gold case set with diamonds. The elegant white dial highlighted with a dash of red at the Night & Day indicator, a replica of tender lights caressing your wrist. The timepiece not only manifests the fine watchmaking craftsmanship but perfectly incarnates femininity.

At the exhibition, guests will also have the chance to appreciate the brands’ new collection Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris, together with the Master and Reverso collections. Antique pieces and fine jewelry watches have traveled all the way from the Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland, and are destined to kindle the light at the exhibition even brighter. Watchmakers will take the central stage at the exhibition and demonstrate their expertise and techniques. The artisanship of Jaeger-LeCoultre watchmakers share the same tranquility and subtlety of the Vallée de Joux, where the Manufacture resides since 1833. Inside the Manufacture, a world committed to precision and complication, runs with humbleness and order. It is the place that bears more than 400 patents and 1200 manufacture movements, engraving glorious moments in the history of watchmaking. In Shanghai today, the 185 years of Jaeger-LeCoultre craftsmanship shines through.

Dream with Films, Glory to Filmmakers

For almost a decade, Jaeger-LeCoultre has worked closely with the most prestigious film festivals around the world. Paying tribute to talented creative minds in the world of filmmaking, Jaeger-LeCoultre initiated the Glory to the Filmmaker Award for and with the Venice International Film Festival to honor artists that “made tremendous contribution to the development of contemporary filmmaking.” Renowned filmmakers such as Takeshi Kitano, Sylvester Stallone, Al Pacino have been honored with this prestigious award at the previous editions of Venice International Film Festival. In 2018, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award makes its appearance at the Shanghai International Film Festival for the very first time to support the development of the Chinese film industry, honoring craftsmanship and savoir-faire. It marks the filmmaker’s extraordinary achievements in filmmaking and symbolizes the shared value and vision with the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand: time may fly but true classics never fade. Creativity is what makes it all live on.

Time flowing creates the timeless, a perfect reflection on the Jaeger-LeCoultre spirit and savoir-faire.

SIFF,shanghai,reverso,Rendez-Vous,Cinema,carousel

To mark the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), which it has sponsored since 2011, the Grande Maison is introducing a new limited edition as part of the Rendez-Vous Night & Day collection. Dressed in crimson red, pink gold, and studded with diamonds, this limited edition of one hundred pieces pays homage to the glamorous world of red carpets and celebrities. The latest limited edition will have its world premiere during the SIFF 2018.

Rendez-Vous Night & Day Medium Tribute to Cinema

A limited-edition Rendez-Vous in the Jaeger-LeCoultre tradition

The Grande Maison takes great delight in paying tribute to Cinema, and has created an exclusive edition, as in 2017, that pairs watchmaking tradition with feminine elegance in an exquisite model. The new Rendez-Vous Night & Day performs an unprecedented role with bold staging, showcasing crimson red on both its iconic function disc at 6 o’clock and on its glistening, bright red alligator-leather strap. It also appears on the winding crown in the guise of a garnet cabochon as red as film-star lips.

An ode to film and the eternal feminine

Fitted with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 898A/1, the watch reveals a day/night indicator against a new backdrop. The Moon, which traditionally features on the models of this line, gives way to a five-pointed star. Could it be a tribute to cinema and its stars? Or a subtle reminder of one of the Rendez-Vous collection’s unique characteristics? In any event, this pink gold star gracefully glides across a crimson red background, which gives a subtle nod to the deep red of its strap. A bezel set with brilliant-cut diamonds enhances this new expression and underscores the finely guilloché-adorned face of this sublimely feminine model, which can be discovered as a limited edition in Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques.

“Glory to the Filmmaker” trophy

To celebrate the red-letter day of its official release, the Rendez-Vous Night & Day Medium Tribute to Cinema will be presented at the Shanghai International Film Festival during the presentation ceremony of the now-famous “Glory to the Filmmaker” trophy. Inaugurated by Jaeger-LeCoultre, this award recognises every year the creative talents of exemplary past and present film figures who endeavour to advance and promote cinema. The world launch of the Rendez-Vous Night & Day Medium Tribute to Cinema will be beautifully accompanied by the recognition of a female cinematic personality, whom the award will be presented this year in Shanghai.

Drawn to the world of film by a shared passion for magnificent storytelling, the Grande Maison transports us once again to the imaginative and creative realm of its unbridled talents. Like the scripting and production of a cinematographic work, the new Rendez-Vous Night & Day Medium Tribute to Cinema marks the culmination of a project performed by passionate artisans fuelled by a desire to share their art with an admiring audience.

Pledging once again its support to the Foundation for the work it conducts supporting children with cancer, the Grande Maison has supported a new project to give a group of children the opportunity to enjoy a very special experience at Dynamo Camp, a new camp in Italy, part of the Serious Fun Children’s Network, which the Aladina Foundation began working with in summer 2017. These camps provide an unforgettable experience for the children involved, helping them to recover their joy, rebuild their self-esteem and fully recharge their batteries for their ongoing battle with cancer – all this under discreet but close medical supervision. As in previous years, Jaeger-LeCoultre has wanted to count on the vision and experience of an exceptional godmother to present this charity project. This year, it was María de León, who was already closely involved in various charity projects, including the Aladina Foundation itself for some years now. During a meeting with the media at the Jaeger-LeCoultre VIP Lounge at Hotel María Cristina, María de León, together with the filmmaker and Foundation president Paco Arango, and Cristina - one of the girls supported by the Foundation - shared their vision and first-hand experiences of the Dynamo Camp.

Cinema,charity,Film,San-sebastian,sebastian,aladina
