Venice, La Serenissima. Renowned for its extraordinary light and beauty, the city has inspired generations of artists throughout the centuries. Among them was J.M.W. Turner, who found in Venice an inexhaustible source of inspiration. His luminous interpretations of the city not only captured its unique atmosphere but also helped shape the course of landscape painting in Western art.

This September, coinciding with its participation in the Homo Faber Biennale in Venice, Jaeger-LeCoultre pays tribute to the host city with four new limited-edition Reverso Tribute Enamel timepieces. The caseback of each watch features a miniature reproduction of one of J.M.W. Turner’s paintings of La Serenissima, reaffirming Reverso’s role as a canvas for artistic expression.

EXPRESSING A VISION OF ART AND CULTURE

Beginning in Europe and now extending worldwide, Homo Faber was created to honour and promote excellence in craft in all its forms. This aligns closely with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s commitment to supporting not only the highly specialised technical crafts inherent to watchmaking but also the artistic crafts associated with Haute Horlogerie. Expressing Jaeger-LeCoultre’s vision of art and culture, the new Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Turner Series’ pays homage to this shared mission while showcasing the talents and skills of the Manufacture’s in-house Métiers Rares™ atelier.

Turner, a pioneer of modern art: Born in London in 1775, Joseph Mallord William Turner is acknowledged as one of the most influential painters in Western art history. While best known as a landscape painter, his work explored many aspects of the rapidly changing world in which he lived: industrialisation, profound social change and political and economic upheaval. Revealing a precocious talent from an early age, his first works followed the prevailing style of realism. However, rejecting established conventions, he soon developed a far more expressive approach, using loose brushstrokes – and sometimes his thumb or a palette knife – to create dynamic compositions. Employing colour and light not only to represent his subjects but also to evoke emotion, Turner transformed the course of landscape painting and anticipated artistic developments that would emerge many decades later. As a precursor of modern art, he exerted a profound influence on both Impressionism in the late 19^th century and Abstract Expressionism in the 20^th century. His artistic legacy has continued to shape generations of artists since his death in 1851.

Venice, Turner’s enduring fascination: Turner was intrigued by the very idea of Venice, his imagination fuelled by the writings of Shakespeare and Lord Byron. He made three journeys to the city – in 1819, 1833 and 1840 – the first when he was already a mature artist of 44. Each visit took place in late summer, when humidity shrouds the canals in a soft haze and the light seems to make the buildings levitate above the lagoon. Although Turner exhibited only 25 Venetian paintings during his lifetime, his output was remarkably prolific: over the course of his three visits, he produced some 150 watercolours and as many as 900 drawings in less than four weeks. His oil paintings of Venice were created later, upon his return to his London studio.

Capturing Turner’s light in enamel: The new Reverso Tribute Enamel timepieces unite the crafts of enamel miniature painting and paillonné enamelling on the casebacks with guillochage and enamel on the dials. The swivelling case of the Reverso lends itself naturally to artistic decoration and Jaeger-LeCoultre has used the blank metal reverse side of the case as a canvas on which its enamellers have created a series of highly accurate, miniaturised reproductions of celebrated works of art. To reproduce the shimmering beauty of Turner’s paintings, each Reverso Tribute Enamel timepiece requires approximately 80 hours of work.

As Turner’s works were of different formats, each view was cropped to capture the essence of the composition while also fitting the portrait orientation of the Reverso case. For each watch, the first of many challenges was to miniaturise the original works – the largest measuring 68 x 91 cm – to 2 cm^2, literally postage-stamp size, without losing any detail.

Equally important was capturing the ethereal quality of light and its shimmering effect on the water, as well as recreating Turner’s subtle interplay of perspective that characterises the original paintings. To achieve the ‘floating’ effect created by the clouds required the enameller to work across multiple enamel planes – a complex technique that began with the enameller to painting the clouds as part of the original miniature work, then applying (and firing) two layers of translucent enamel to those areas. The clouds are then repainted on top of these translucent layers before two more layers of translucent enamel are applied over the entire surface. To enhance the limpid effect of the light, the enameller used the craft of paillonage on areas depicting water, applying a sheet of silver leaf over the base enamel before beginning to paint the image with translucent coloured enamel.

To achieve the desired effects, each work required 14 layers of enamel – three base layers, four layers of painting and seven layers of translucent ‘fondant’ – with separate firings at 800°C after each layer. Discreetly positioned on each image, a secret signature in the form of a gold-leaf paillon identifies the enameller who created the piece.

The dialogue of guillochage and enamel: The colourful dials are decorated with meticulously hand-guilloché patterns beneath translucent Grand Feu enamel, with the patterns and colours chosen in response to the miniature paintings on the casebacks.

Capturing the light with every movement of the wrist, the intricate hand-guilloché patterns are engraved using a manually operated rose engine lathe, requiring up to 1,080 passages of the lathe. After completion of the guillochage, the enamelling requires an additional eight to nine hours of work for each dial, with up to five layers of enamel and six or seven separate firings at 800°C. The final challenge is the faultless application of the faceted indexes (requiring tiny holes to be drilled through the pristine enamel without cracking it) and the transfer of the chemin de fer minute track. The simplicity of the faceted applied hour-markers and Dauphine hands – design codes shared with every Reverso Tribute model – places full value on the beauty of the decoration.

THE LIGHT OF VENICE: FOUR EVOCATIVE WORKS RECREATED IN MINIATURE

While rich in detail, much of the art that Turner created in Venice was less about depicting the city itself than about exploring how the moods of nature – the light, the water and the sky – unfolded against the backdrop of Venice. Compelling and atmospheric, his paintings of La Serenissima capture the city’s fragility and fading glory as well as its grandeur, with a sense of melancholy behind its beauty. The artist evokes the transient effects of light, atmosphere and time with an almost cinematic quality, so that the viewer is not simply looking at an image but experiencing it with multiple senses.

Venice, the Dogana and San Giorgio Maggiore: Chosen as the setting for the Homo Faber Biennale, the island of San Giorgio Maggiore sits directly across the lagoon from St Mark’s Square. In Turner’s painting, made in 1834, the emphasis is on light, colour and reflection, with the bright white façade of the island’s eponymous church anchoring the composition and rows of buildings receding into the hazy distance. Silver paillons incorporated beneath the enamel enrich the texture of the lagoon, lending exceptional brilliance to the water and intensifying its constantly shifting reflections. The bustling activity of Venetian life – traders’ sailing boats, small vessels loaded with provisions and gondolas ferrying passengers across the canal – contrasts with the barely rippling surface of the lagoon. The green tones of the water are echoed on the dial, which is decorated with a new guilloché pattern, soleil croisé, creating a subtle texture beneath layers of richly lustrous enamel. This guilloché comprises 180 finely engraved lines, each executed in six successive passages of the rose-engine lathe, for a total of 1,080 passages.

Venice, from the Porch of Madonna della Salute: The hazy light brings a remarkable sense of depth to this view, with the foundations of the buildings seeming to merge into their reflections in the water and their architectural details sublimated by the atmospheric effect of light. Delicately applied silver paillons beneath the enamel heighten the texture of the water, capturing the subtle reflections and shimmering luminosity that define Turner’s vision of Venice. Painted in 1835, this work clearly demonstrates Turner’s evolving style, as he adapts watercolour techniques to oil painting – an innovation denounced by traditionalists that would nevertheless revolutionise the landscape genre. Based on a pencil sketch made by Turner during his first visit to Venice, the composition reflects studies developed further after his second visit in 1833. The green tone of the water is echoed in the Grand Feu enamel dial, where a rice-grain guilloché pattern creates constantly changing effects of light and shade as the wrist turns, echoing Turner’s rendering of Venice’s shimmering atmosphere. This vertical barleycorn guilloché is achieved through 70 precisely engraved lines, each requiring six successive passages of the rose-engine lathe, for a total of 420 operations.

Bridge of Sighs, Ducal Palace & Custom House, Venice: A direct tribute to the great 18^th-century Venetian artist Giovanni Antonio Canaletto, this is the first view of Venice that Turner painted in oils, completed 14 years after his initial visit to the city. Although not shown in this crop, the original painting depicts Canaletto seated at his easel in the far left of the composition. With reflections smudged by the hazy atmosphere of a late-summer day, the buildings appear to float between the lagoon and the sky, the rosy coral colour of the Doge’s Palace providing a counterpoint to the green of the water and the bright cerulean tone of the sky. The subtle reflections of the lagoon are further enhanced by delicate silver paillons beneath the enamel, adding remarkable texture to the water while amplifying its luminous interplay with light. The pure blue sky is echoed in the dial, where a basket-weave guilloché, composed of 46 finely engraved lines executed in six successive passages of the rose-engine lathe, is overlaid with translucent blue Grand Feu enamel, creating a shimmering effect as it catches the light.

Venice, the Bridge of Sighs. In this view of Venice, painted in 1840, Turner captures both the beauty and the decline of the city, contrasting the darker foreground with the glowing light reflected on the buildings. The effect is further enhanced by silver paillons beneath the enamel, which bring exceptional texture to the water while revealing ever-changing reflections as the light plays across the surface. Through the human figures, he expresses his concern for the profound social and economic changes of his time and, when he exhibited the painting, he accompanied it with two lines of a poem adapted from Byron, who had been deeply moved by the fall of the Venetian Republic: “I stood upon a bridge, a palace and a prison on each hand.” The subtle lavender tint in the blue sky is carried over to the Grand Feu enamel dial, where a wavy hand-guilloché pattern evokes the rippling reflections of light on Venice’s canals. This wide and deep horizontal wave guilloché is achieved through 41 precisely engraved lines, each requiring nine successive passes, for a total of 369 passages.

Calibre 822, a timeless movement: Like all time-only Reverso Tribute models, the watches of the Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Turner Series’ are fitted with the manually wound Calibre 822, developed by Jaeger-LeCoultre specifically for the Reverso and a cornerstone of the collection for more than two decades. Shaped to fit the rectangular case, it measures just under 3 mm in height, ensuring the slender profile of the Reverso case and exceptional comfort on the wrist. With a power reserve of 42 hours and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), Calibre 822 delivers reliable precision, uniting fine watchmaking with the decorative crafts of guillochage, enamelling, paillonage and miniature painting.

Offered in a limited edition of 10 pieces per model, the Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Turner Series’ is a tribute to the city hosting the Homo Faber Biennale.

Jaeger-LeCoultre is pleased to announce its return to Venice in September to participate in the fourth edition of Homo Faber Biennial, the world’s leading exhibition of contemporary craftsmanship. Created by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, Homo Faber celebrates the savoir-faire of talented craftspeople from around the globe, honouring and supporting the priceless human skill behind the creation of beautifully handcrafted objects. This year’s edition of Homo Faber Biennial, designed around the theme An Island of Light by award-winning British stage designer and artist Es Devlin, will showcase the work of more than 500 highly skilled makers from over 70 countries, exhibited across 15 themed spaces. Homo Faber 2026 will take place at Fondazione Giorgio Cini on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, from 1 to 30 September 2026.

A CELEBRATION OF BEAUTY AND A RARE INSIGHT INTO PRECIOUS CRAFT SKILLS

Underlining the exceptional savoir-faire of its Métiers Rares™ atelier and reflecting a core value of the Maison, Jaeger-LeCoultre has been chosen to participate in two of the themed spaces of Homo Faber 2026.

In “An Atelier Alive”, located in the Sala degli Arazzi, the Maison celebrates the talent and accumulated savoir-faire it continues to nurture in both watchmaking and the decorative arts through four new limited-edition Reverso timepieces. On the caseback of each watch, a minutely detailed reproduction of one of the early 19^th-century paintings of Venice by the great English artist J.M.W. Turner showcases the craft of miniature painting in Grand Feu enamel. Among them is ‘The Dogana and San Giorgio Maggiore’, depicting the very island on which Homo Faber Biennial takes place. Turner’s fascination with the Venetian light echoes the theme of Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light. Alongside these miniature works of art, illustrating a shared commitment to beauty and heritage, visitors are invited to observe the delicate and demanding craft of Old Master painting restoration, as an expert restorer breathes new life into a Renaissance masterpiece.

Many of the motifs on Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares™ timepieces are inspired by nature, and the Sala Bianca, with its theme “An Infinite Birdsong”, provides the perfect setting for three more of the Maison’s creations. From the Vallée des Merveilles^TM series, two Reverso One timepieces showcase the crafts of gem-setting and enamelling with images of birds among blossoms, each requiring between 125 and 160 hours of gem-setting work. Alongside them, a new colour edition of the Atmos Régulateur Enamel ‘Colibris’ clock, the result of 230 hours of hand-enamelling, is framed by hand-painted Grand Feu enamel panels depicting hummingbirds among cherry blossoms and hydrangeas.

HOMO FABER FELLOWSHIP

Underlining its commitment, alongside the Michelangelo Foundation, to the preservation and transmission of vitally important craft skills for future generations, Jaeger-LeCoultre has been a founding partner of the Homo Faber Fellowship programme since its establishment in 2023. Redefining the traditional mentorship model, Homo Faber Fellowship offers an international, hands-on learning experience that combines the transmission of exceptional craft skills with business acumen, equipping emerging artisans to thrive in a sustainable craft economy.

Each year, the Fellowship brings together duos of renowned craft masters and emerging talents (fellows) for an eight-month sponsored training programme across Europe. Each cycle begins with a one-month residential masterclass combining creative workshops, design case studies and training in business skills and entrepreneurship. This is followed by a six-month residential placement for fellows in the studios of their respective masters, during which they exchange ideas, share skills and further develop their techniques through the co-creation of an object.

A selection of these objects has been curated for Homo Faber 2026, where they will be displayed across different exhibition areas, each reflecting the creative vision and craftsmanship it embodies. The ten displayed objects were created by the following duos of master artisans and fellows from both the most recent completed cohort (2025/2026) and the previous cohort (2024/2025):

The Valley of Inventions exhibition traces more than 190 years of ingenuity and inventiveness in the pursuit of utmost precision while safeguarding the precious traditions of high watchmaking. Taking place at Zhang Yuan W4, Lane 188, Maoming North Road, Jing'an District, Shanghai, The Valley of Inventions will run from 10–23 September 2026 and will be open to the public free of charge.

Immersing visitors in the creative and cultural universe of Jaeger-LeCoultre, The Valley of Inventions reveals the fascinating story of the origins and mastery of precision through four major themes: Precision and Chronometry, Precision and Tourbillon, Precision and Multi-Axis Tourbillons and Precision and Complications. As visitors explore the exhibition, their experience will be enriched by:

INVENTIVENESS INSPIRED BY A UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT

The story of Jaeger-LeCoultre began in a hidden valley, high in the Swiss Jura, where Huguenot refugees settled in the 16^th century. To carve out a living from the beautiful yet harsh landscape, with its dense forests and bitterly cold winters demanded resilience and determination. Over generations, this resourcefulness was honed into ingenuity and inventiveness – a spirit that would eventually lead to the establishment of the LeCoultre watchmaking atelier in 1833. A constant stream of inventions was to follow – new production tools, the creation of the first integrated Manufacture, innovative manufacturing processes and unprecedented complications. This momentum, sustained to the present day, has been recognised by more than 430 patents.

Today, Jaeger-LeCoultre stands as a true Manufacture-Atelier, bringing together 82 ateliers, 108 crafts and 235 techniques – including 69 signature techniques – under one roof. It is a legacy shaped by place: a rarefied environment where landscape and climate forged the character of its people, whose ingenuity has, in turn, shaped the course of watchmaking history.

THE VALLEY OF INVENTIONS – A STORY OF PRECISION TOLD IN FOUR CHAPTERS

Visitors will be welcomed to The Valley of Inventions by a specially commissioned art installation that evokes the frozen landscape and forests of the Vallée de Joux in winter. A spectacular pine tree, sculpted from ice will form the centrepiece of an immersive show narrating the story of the place, the people and the inventions that shaped the Manufacture. Harnessing multi-sensory cinema technology, the show will feature synchronised physical and environmental effects that draw viewers deeply into the experience. Each of the four chapters in the story of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s mastery of precision will be devoted to a different facet of this crucial aspect of watchmaking.

Precision and Chronometry: Chronometry simply means timekeeping accuracy and the first chapter of the precision story explores the challenge of creating mechanical watch calibres that achieve the very high level of accuracy required to be certified as chronometers through a stringent testing process. In the 19^th century, LeCoultre & Cie produced chronometer-certified pocket watches for marine exploration, before developing precision instruments for aviation and for modern explorers and engineers with the Geophysic chronometer. The Master Control Chronometre collection, launched in April 2026, sets a new standard with double certification by both COSC and Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new HPG (High Precision Guarantee) seal.

Precision and Tourbillon focus on the regulating organ – the balance wheel and hairspring – whose isochronism is essential for accurate timekeeping. To counter the effects of gravity, Jaeger-LeCoultre developed its first tourbillon calibre, Calibre 170, in 1946. That same year, the calibre won the Neuchâtel Observatory chronometry competition with an exceptional variation of ±1 second per day. Since then, the Maison has refined tourbillon construction and hairspring design, with Calibre 978 winning the first modern chronometry competition in 2009 and inspiring the Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Jumping Date unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2026.

Precision and Multi-Axis Tourbillons: Originally designed for pocket watches, the traditional tourbillon was not intended to fully compensate for gravity’s effects in wristwatch positions. In 2004, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Gyrotourbillon 1, the Maison’s first multi-axis tourbillon, creating three-dimensional rotation to enhance chronometric precision and establishing its leadership in this field. Since then, each generation has pushed boundaries in engineering and miniaturisation, culminating in the 2026 Master Hybris Inventiva Gyrotourbillon à Stratosphère, featuring a triple-axis tourbillon architecture with three titanium cages rotating at different speeds to compensate for gravity in 98% of positions.

Precision and Complications: Adding complications – functions beyond hours, minutes and seconds – requires additional energy, which can affect precision by disturbing the stable power supply to the regulating organ. To overcome this challenge, Jaeger-LeCoultre created the Duometre system in 2007, with two independent barrels and gear trains separating timekeeping from complications to preserve isochronism. Building on 150 years of expertise in complicated calibres and minute repeaters, the Maison continues this pursuit in 2026 with a new expression of Calibre 362, advancing precision, acoustic performance and ultra-thin construction.

A CELEBRATION OF CRAFTSMANSHIP

Visitors will immerse themselves in the craft and art of watchmaking, with a focus on techniques central to the exhibition’s Métiers Rares™ theme.

La Vallée des Merveilles™: presenting a limited-edition capsule collection devoted to feminine timepieces. An ode to nature’s boundless beauty and diversity, La Vallée des Merveilles™ highlights the precision of the traditional decorative handcrafts such as enamelling, engraving and gem-setting practised in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house Métiers Rares™ atelier.

New Reverso Tribute Enamel models: making their Asian debut, four unique creations, crafted through a rare, centuries-old artistry of color and fire, subtly capture the spirit of an iconic city. Each piece bears the intricate vision of a 19^th-century master.

Live Demonstrations: A rare opportunity to witness four high-watchmaking skills brought to life by Master Artisans from the Manufacture and engage directly with them as they share insights into their crafts. Hand-bevelling and enamelling reveal the precision and meticulous execution behind fine watchmaking, while a perlage demonstration highlights the artistry of decorative finishing. The programme concludes with a watchmaker from the Complications workshop assembling a Master Control Chronometre movement and explaining different tourbillon constructions – from traditional flat tourbillons to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s pioneering multi-axis Gyrotourbillon à Stratosphère.

A LABORATORY OF PRECISION

HPG Laboratory: a hands-on experience exploring the key stages of the stringent new High Precision Guarantee (HPG) seal, which certifies the accuracy and quality of the Maison’s watches. Visitors will immerse themselves in simulations of rigorous tests, including the shock test, the impact of changing pressures at different altitudes, various positions and variable temperatures. The High Precision Guarantee (HPG) seal guarantees not only the refined aesthetic finishes but also the high precision of the timepiece. This certification is met through a patented protocol that rigorously tests cased-up watches, replicating the daily wear of a watch.

Beyond precision, the laboratory experience also delves into the art of watch decoration, highlighting not only its aesthetic beauty but also its original functional purposes from historical watchmaking. This approach allows visitors to truly comprehend the profound intricacies of watchmaking.

The mystery of the Atmos and watchmaking objects: This display features a selection of key Atmos models, including the traditional Atmos Classic, an artistic interpretation of the Atmos Régulateur, as well as the Memovox Travel Clock by Marc Newson, which was newly launched during Milan Design Week.

A hands-on journey into Precision: for those wishing to deepen their understanding of watchmaking a Discovery Workshop focusing on the theme of Precision will be presented by the Atelier d’Antoine in a dedicated space within the exhibition. This dynamic and interactive workshop includes the rare opportunity for participants to try a key watchmaking skill, guided by an expert from Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Discovery Workshops are available upon invitation; participation is free of charge but reservations must be made in advance.

In contrast, the Rendez-Vous Hour-Minute presents the collection's signature feminine elegance in a new, minimalistic style. It features a 29mm case in steel or 18K (750/1000) pink gold, a smooth polished bezel, an engraved caseback and a supple 'second skin' bracelet available in matching metal or polished alligator leather.

A rendez-vous between art and eternity: introducing a 34 mm platinum 950 case to the collection, the Rendez-Vous Jewellery Night & Day unites the technical and aesthetic sophistication of fine watchmaking with the richness of gem-setting and miniature hand-painting.

In a delightful ode to nature, the dial features an image of an Asian Paradise Flycatcher perched on a branch of Korean Dogwood blossom. Hand-painted in lacquer on a transparent sapphire dial, the composition brings to life one tiny brushstroke at a time, creating lifelike detail and a remarkable sense of visual depth. On a disc, set beneath the image of the bird, an ethereal rendition of the moon and sun is also hand-painted in lacquer. A new expression of the Night & Day complication, this disc completes one rotation every 24 hours, tracing the daily transition from sunlight to moonlight. This profound immersion masterfully crafts the perception of two distinct dials – one for day, one for night – each gracefully claiming a third of the total dial's expanse.

Defining the asymmetrical dial layout, the sinuous Floral numerals – a signature of the Rendez-Vous collection – are graduated in size to form a crescent that wraps around the upper section. Beneath the applied numerals, a fine oval-shaped ring draws the eye to the delicately painted image and Night & Day display. The captivating tableau is enhanced by diamonds, set into the platinum case by the specialist gem-setter in the Manufacture’s in-house Métiers Rares^TM atelier: the bezel lights up with a glittering circle of 48 baguette-cut diamonds; these are complemented by brilliant-cut diamonds on the case sides and lugs.

In keeping with the Rendez-Vous codes, an additional brilliant-cut diamond is reverse-set in the crown.

This poetic expression of femininity is brought to life by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s self-winding Calibre 733, whose finely decorated components are revealed through the transparent sapphire caseback. The automatic movement features a rotor, meticulously crafted from 22-carat gold (916/1000), a testament to horological excellence.

A blue alligator strap with a glowing ‘satin’ finish is matched to the blues of the dial and features Jaeger-LeCoultre’s proprietary interchangeability system, enabling the owner to change straps in an instant to create a different look if wished. The Rendez-Vous Jewellery Night & Day is unveiled as a truly exceptional offering, produced in a highly exclusive series of only 10 pieces.

RENDEZ-VOUS HOUR-MINUTE

Daily wear, redefined: with the introduction of the Rendez-Vous Hour-Minute, Jaeger-Lecoultre pares the Rendez-Vous aesthetic back to its essence, achieving a fine balance: minimalistic in spirit yet finely detailed; decorative without being elaborate; perfect for daily wear while dressy enough for evening. The 29 mm case, offered in either steel or 18K (750/1000) pink gold, features a convex bezel – polished, rather than diamond-set. The closed metal caseback is engraved with a stylised image of the sun.

Displaying hours and minutes only, the dials are designed as a series of concentric circles and feature the Rendez-Vous signature Floral numerals and sunray guilloché texture. On the outer edge of this, diamonds have a discreet presence as the hour markers, in keeping with the collection’s codes, while the inner edge is defined by a ring of deeply textured embossing.

The precious metal case of the 18K (750/1000) pink gold model is matched by the colour of the hands and numerals, which harmonise with the warm, creamy tone of the dial. The tone-on-tone palette is enhanced by an alligator strap in a soft taupe colour with a subtly glowing ‘satin’ finish. The strap also features the signature interchangeability system. Infused with a delicate jewellery essence, this timepiece is destined for daily wear, providing a discreet yet unwavering presence through every facet of life.

Metal bracelet, with a new aesthetic: The steel model, where blue hands contrast with the snow-white dial and cool tone of the case metal, is fitted with a new style of bracelet. Introduced exclusively for the Rendez-Vous collection in 2025.

Its modern lozenge-shaped links are designed for maximum flexibility, so that it drapes around the wrist as softly as a ribbon. NEW COMPACT PROPORTIONS ENHANCE VERSATILITY

Precision in every detail: As tastes and lifestyles evolve, Jaeger-LeCoultre revisits the anchor model of the Polaris collection – the Polaris Date – introducing it in a more compact, 40 mm steel case. As well as reducing the diameter of the steel case, the Maison has slimmed it down to a thickness of 12.9 mm, preserving the ideal proportions of its bold and purposeful design while enhancing comfort, wearability and versatility. The Polaris Date is presented on a blue canvas strap, fitted with a double-folding buckle.

The Polaris collection’s distinctive aesthetic is anchored by its cases, which are distinguished by taut lines, glass-box crystals complemented by narrow bezels, a dynamic mix of brushed and polished surfaces, and dual crowns.

Positioned off-centre, the second crown adjusts the internal rotating bezel, enabling a countdown of pre-set elapsed time – a practical function derived from the diving watch ancestry of the Polaris collections. The steel case is water-resistant to 20 bar.

Performance inside and out: The sapphire crystal case-back reveals the finely finished automatic movement, Calibre 899. Exemplifying the pragmatic character of the Polaris collection, it combines mechanical elegance with high performance and offers a power reserve of 70 hours – highly practical for life on the move. Like the movement of every Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece, it was designed, produced and assembled entirely under the Maison’s own roof.

A SIGNATURE DIAL

The dial of the new Polaris Date retains all the signatures that distinguish the collection.

A distinctive architecture based on concentric circles; assertively designed Arabic numerals and elongated trapezoid indexes; and skeletonised hands – with all indications coated in Super-LumiNova® for optimum legibility in low light conditions.

The lacquering of the dials is a lengthy and exacting process. After the grained and sunray finish are crafted, 7 layers of coloured lacquer and 35 layers of translucent lacquer are successively applied and finally meticulously polished by hand to create the mesmerizing double gradient dial with profound depth.

The new, more compact dimensions of Polaris Date elevate its confident modernity and relaxed elegance while underlining its sporty and purposeful character, anchoring it as a contemporary classic perfectly suited to life’s everyday adventures.

Jaeger-LeCoultre is delighted to present the sixth capsule of The Collectibles, a meticulously vetted selection of 12 museum-grade timepieces to be unveiled in London on June 15 and available to collectors worldwide. The sixth capsule marks the first presentation of The Collectibles in London, an important hub for watch enthusiasts and collectors.

Its timing in June coincides with the Season, the period in spring and early summer when London traditionally hosts a rich programme of prestigious social, cultural, and sporting events, attracting visitors from all over the world. This capsule comprises a meticulously vetted selection of seven rare Reverso watches dating from 1931 to 2003. It is presented alongside five emblematic pieces from the golden age of watchmaking, in the mid-20^th century.

THE COLLECTIBLES PROGRAMME

The Collectibles is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house programme dedicated to sourcing, restoring and offering rare, museum-grade timepieces from the golden age of watchmaking. Celebrating nearly 200 years of creativity, it highlights the Maison’s heritage through a curated selection of 17 emblematic models – from the Duoplan and Reverso to the Geophysic, Futurematic and Memovox Polaris – spanning the mid-1920s to the early 1970s. Presented through exclusive capsule releases worldwide, these timepieces invite collectors to become the next custodians of their stories. This commitment to heritage is made possible by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s dedicated restoration workshop, one of the very few maintained by a Manufacture. Here, ten master watchmakers meticulously restore each piece, servicing movements, hand-rebuilding components and sourcing historical parts from exceptional heritage stocks, while preserving original character and patina. Once restored and certified to museum standards, each timepiece is ready to continue the story it began in the Vallée de Joux.

REVERSO: THE EMBLEMATIC REVERSIBLE WATCH

The seven Reverso models offered in the sixth Collectibles capsule collection illustrate the depth and breadth of the Reverso’s evolution from its introduction in 1931 until the beginning of the early 21^st century. While Reverso was originally conceived for a sport – created to withstand the shocks of the polo field – it was quickly adopted by tastemakers from many walks of life, continuously evolving without compromising its identity to become recognised as an icon of Art Deco design. In the 1930s, LeCoultre & Cie distinguished itself with black dials, contrasting with the dominant silver and white dials in the watch industry. These black dials were hailed as 'the dial of the future' in the 1934 Spécialités Horlogères catalogue, which was the very first product catalogue from the association between Jaeger and LeCoultre. Reserved for only a select number of early Reverso references, these high-legibility dials reinforced the model’s resolutely modern character and are notably featured on three timepieces from this capsule: Reverso 1931, Reverso 1931 Dame and the Doctor’s Reverso.

The Reverso 1931 features this bold black dial with a railroad minute track and elongated trapezoidal indexes. It is fitted with the Tavannes Calibre 063, a pragmatic early solution while Jaeger-LeCoultre developed its own shaped movements from 1933 onwards. This Reverso is offered with a hand-crafted black calfskin leather strap.

Cased in steel and powered by the Tavannes Calibre 051, the Reverso 1931 Dame demonstrates how quickly the model evolved for different wearers. Adapting the same design language, its dial replaces the men’s minute track with bracket-like corner markers and refined Art Deco corners with trapezoidal indexes, details echoed today in the Reverso One collection. This Reverso is also offered with a hand-crafted black calfskin leather strap.

Set in a steel case, the 1938 Reverso Central Seconds, later nicknamed the Doctor’s Reverso, houses the Manufacture Calibre 411 and reflects the growing functional sophistication of the model. Designed with practicality in mind, its central seconds display features five-second intervals aligned with the elongated hour markers for optimal readability, making the precise measurement of pulse rates particularly easy. A highly practical tool for doctors of the time, it soon earned the enduring nickname “Doctor’s Reverso". This timepiece is offered with a hand-crafted black calfskin leather strap.

A two-tone Reverso from 1941 pairs steel with 18K yellow gold (750/1000), an innovative combination conceived to enhance durability while preserving the elegance of gold. Its 18K 18k yellow gold (750/1000) case bears the eagle head hallmark for French gold. Powered by the Manufacture Calibre 438, it features a small-seconds display at six o’clock, a configuration introduced in 1933 that became one of the defining signatures of early Reverso design. This timepiece is offered with a hand-crafted light-brown calfskin leather strap with cream-colored stitching.

A 1972 Reverso Corvo, produced in just 200 pieces, marks a pivotal chapter in the history of the Reverso. When changing tastes favoured functional watches, in a post-war era that prized practicality over elegance and amid the quartz crisis, Giorgio Corvo recognised the enduring appeal of the design. In 1972, he acquired the Maison’s final 200 unused Reverso cases and fitted them with the mechanical Calibre 840. Said to have sold out within a month to Italian clients, the Reverso Corvo proved that enthusiasm for the model had never faded and paved the way for its revival. Featuring a silver dial housed in a steel case, it remains powered by the manual-winding Calibre 840. This timepiece is offered with a hand-crafted black calfskin leather strap.

Set in an 18K white gold case (750/1000), a Reverso Sun Moon from 2000 reflects the renewed enthusiasm for mechanical watchmaking that emerged in the 1990s, when Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced a new generation of complication calibres for the Reverso, fitting them in cases with sapphire crystal backs to showcase the mechanical complexity. Equipped with the manual-winding Calibre 823, first developed in 1999, it pairs technical sophistication with an elegant display of celestial indications. Its black dial tracks the passage of the sun through a rotating 24-hour disc, coamplemented by a moon-phase display at six o’clock and a power reserve at eleven o’clock. Framed by a railway minute track and Arabic numerals, the composition balances clarity with refinement, while the sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement with its recognisable pistol bridge. This timepiece is paired with a hand-crafted black Cordovan strap by the celebrated Argentinian polo bootmaker, Casa Fagliano.

A  Reverso Art Deco illustrates how the introduction of sapphire crystal casebacks encouraged a new expression of decorative craftsmanship within the collection: skeletonisation. First introduced in 1995, this 2003 example pairs an intricately hand-decorated, skeletonised interpretation of Calibre 822 with an elegant Art Deco aesthetic. Visible through the open caseback, the emblematic calibre is distinguished by blued screws and hand-engraved bridges adorned with a refined barleycorn motif. Its 18K white gold case (750/1000) frames a salmon-toned solid silver dial, where hand-guilloché patterns contrast with vertical brushing, complemented by dauphine hands and applied trapezoidal indexes. Archival records indicate that no more than ten pieces were made each month, reflecting the exceptional level of craftsmanship required for each timepiece. This timepiece is paired with a hand-crafted black Cordovan strap by the celebrated Argentinian polo bootmaker, Casa Fagliano.

The seven Reverso pieces are complemented by five watches that demonstrate the diversity of the 17 models included in The Collectibles programme. Each of the five additional watches offered in the sixth capsule represents a high-water mark for both Jaeger-LeCoultre and 20^th-century watchmaking, with groundbreaking innovations that exemplify the Maison’s pioneering spirit.

TRIPLE CALENDAR: THE GOLD STANDARD OF COMPLICATIONS

Jaeger-LeCoultre developed the first Triple (or Complete) Calendar calibre in 1942, a complication specifically designed for the growing wristwatch industry, displaying the date, day and month. An extremely elegant response to a concern for utility, intended for men of the world. As well as creating its own watches, Jaeger-LeCoultre supplied these calibres to some of the most renowned names in watchmaking. It thus became one of the most emblematic complications of the mid-20^th century.

Born in the early 1940s, the Triple Calendar by Jaeger-LeCoultre embodied a new generation of useful complications designed for everyday wear, combining timeless elegance with practical functionality.

Among the first complications conceived for a series-produced wristwatch, it left a lasting imprint on both the Manufacture and the history of watchmaking.

Dating from 1946, this rare Triple Calendar with Moonphase is housed in a 35 mm 18K yellow gold case (750/1000) produced in Paris by the Jaeger atelier and bearing the Edmond Jaeger hallmark. Made exclusively for the French market, it features a perfectly legible dial designed for exemplary ease of reading, in keeping with the spirit of military-inspired watches of the period. Powered by the manual-winding Calibre 494, the watch combines calendar indications with a moon-phase display integrated within the small seconds counter. It is fitted on a hand-crafted grained blue calfskin leather strap.  

THE DUOPLAN: A REVOLUTION ON THE WRIST

At the dawn of the partnership between Jaeger and LeCoultre, the Duoplan represented a genuine industry revolution. Built on two superimposed planes, the Duoplan calibre opened new creative possibilities for both companies. Invented in 1925, its rectangular two-level architecture enabled unprecedented miniaturisation by housing larger, more robust components within a compact construction. This breakthrough had a decisive impact on the design of women’s watches. It was also a revolution for LeCoultre & Cie, which, thanks to the Duoplan, transitioned from a movement and component producer to a full-fledged watch manufacturer.

An extreme miniaturisation with no concession to precision: the 1956 Duoplan Coulissante secret watch embodies Jaeger-LeCoultre’s technical ingenuity. Set on an 18K yellow gold bracelet (750/1000), its sliding element conceals the dial at will, revealing the secret character of the piece. The case and bracelet are finished with a wavy, textured pattern reminiscent of Clous de Paris decoration.

MEMOVOX: A SECOND MEMORY

In 1958, Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrated its 125th anniversary by launching three models that highlighted its expertise and the innovative character of its creations. Among them was a particularly striking interpretation of the legendary Memovox: the Memovox Parking. With a patented dial design highly recognisable thanks to its blue and white pictogramme, the Memovox Parking allows the wearer to set the alarm for a specific duration to avoid any parking ticket.

A 1958 Memovox Parking embodies a seemingly incompatible duality: elegance in 18K pink gold (750/1000) paired with purposeful functionality. Powered by the manual-winding Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 814, it transforms a refined dress watch into a discreet urban companion, thanks to its alarm function. The case bears the Edmond Jaeger hallmark (EJ), attesting to its Parisian craftsmanship in the Maison’s ateliers. It is fitted on a hand-crafted brown calfskin leather strap.

Produced in 1969, this steel Memovox Automatic Calendar, reference E855, pairs technical innovation with a strong visual identity. At the time, Jaeger-LeCoultre brought together two key advances in wristwatchmaking: the alarm complication and automatic winding. This 37 mm model features an elegant black dial with a date window at 3 o’clock and is powered by the self-winding Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 825.

Its distinctive character is further enhanced by its five-row bracelet made by Gay Frères and engraved with the company’s chamois hallmark. Fitted with its original Gay Frères steel bracelet, the combination with the black painted dial makes it one of the most sought-after Memovox Automatic models, crafted by the renowned Swiss specialist known for supplying the world’s most prestigious watchmakers. An additional hand-crafted black calfskin strap is also provided with the watch.

GEOMATIC: THE CHRONOMETER CALIBRE

Inspired by the legendary Geophysic, the Geomatic incorporates the best that the watchmakers from the Vallée de Joux could produce at the time. The Geomatic was developed as one of the most reliable automatic watch of its time. Highly precise and a true benchmark at its launch in 1961, it symbolises the ultimate combination of state-of-the-art technology and understated elegance thanks to its chronometer-certified movement and rich dial.

A rare Geomatic E560 from 1970, produced to just 200 pieces, is housed in an 18K yellow gold cushion-shaped case (750/1000). Powered by the automatic Calibre K883S, chronometer-certified and tested for 360 hours, it features a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time-setting and an instantaneous jumping date. This highly technical construction reflects the pursuit of accuracy at the heart of the Geomatic line. It is fitted on a hand-crafted taupe calfskin leather strap.

Each timepiece offered under The Collectibles programme is presented with an extract from the Jaeger-LeCoultre archives and a complimentary copy of The Collectibles book, as well as a new handmade leather strap chosen to complement the style of each watch, except in cases where the model has a metal bracelet. In addition, when available, the original box and papers together with the original strap or bracelet will be included.

Celebrating more than 90 years of the Reverso – an icon at the crossroads of watchmaking, architecture, and art – the exhibition invites visitors to discover the world of the Maison’s emblematic timepiece through a richly immersive Pop-up that is open to the public from May 21 to 31, 2026.

Hosted at Sweet Bird North (95 NE 40th St), this engaging experience marks a key moment for the Maison in the United States, ahead of the opening of its new boutique in the Miami Design District in Summer 2026.

THE LATEST CHAPTER OF AN ICON

From Art Deco to ‘Or Deco’: introducing three models each featuring 46 coloured gemstones and echoing classic cocktail timepieces: one in sapphire, one in emerald, and one in ruby; a new monochromatic version in 18K white gold (750/1000); and a smaller, unisex size for a more compact, versatile look.              -          Acclaimed 2024 World’s Best Pastry Chef Nina Métayer enhances the experience at the 1931 Café with a culinary tribute that translates the harmony of the Golden Ratio into pastry form. For Miami, she introduces an exclusive signature creation, Splendeur Tropicale – a gourmet smoothie blending sun-ripened tropical fruits and refined textures, evoking both the city’s golden light and the harmonious proportions of the Reverso. This culinary experience is presented within a reimagined 1931 Café, offering guests a refined interlude where Swiss precision meets tropical light.

In 2024, Jaeger-LeCoultre created the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual, uniting two lines of expertise in high-precision timekeeping – the Duometre concept and a novel form of multi-axis tourbillon – to create Calibre 388. Now, it reinterprets this highly sophisticated perpetual calendar timepiece in platinum, with a new case and matching bracelet complemented by a grey dial. It will be produced in a limited and numbered edition of 20 pieces.

A MONOCHROMATIC PALETTE CREATES AESTHETIC HARMONY

Crafted in platinum for this new model, the 44 mm Duometre case is a contemporary interpretation of the savonette pocket watches created by Jaeger-LeCoultre in the 19^th-century. Its rounded contours, amplified by the convex crystal, polished bezel and deeply notched winding crown are highly tactile as well as visually appealing. The apparent simplicity of the case belies its complexity: it comprises 40 separate parts and the lugs are screwed rather than integrated, to enable a mixture of polished, brushed and micro-blasted surfaces that play with shadows and reflections as every movement of the wrist captures the light differently.

Created specifically for this reinterpretation of the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual, the new platinum 950 bracelet combines technical sophistication with refined elegance. Its supple five-row construction ensures exceptional comfort on the wrist, while alternating brushed and polished finishes echo the meticulous finishing of the case. Inspired by the vintage design codes of the Duometre collection, the bracelet’s fluid integration enhances the distinctive rounded silhouette of the case. Each link is individually domed along the 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock axis – subtly recalling the curvature of the lugs – and carefully brushed and bevelled on both sides to create a sophisticated interplay of light.

Harmonising with the cool silvery tones of the platinum case and bracelet, the new all-grey dial is finished in a mix of opaline, brushed and azuré surfaces, creating subtle contrasts between the different indications. The curving platinum bridge that separates the displays from the tourbillon aperture is finished with microblasting and bevelling. In contrast, the polished hands, applied hour markers and frames surrounding the date display create a subtle interplay of light.

Directly expressing the underlying Duometre mechanism, with its two barrels and gear trains, the symmetrical dial layout of the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual forms a triangle, with its apex defined by the grande date display at 3 o’clock.  The two power reserves sit above and below the time display. The ‘base’ of the triangle is formed by the display of moon-phases and days in the upper sector, and the perpetual calendar’s months and years in the lower part.

On the left-hand side of the dial, the triple-axis tourbillon performs its ‘spinning top’ rotation and a sapphire crystal window in the side of the case offers another view of its mechanical dance. The tourbillon is set above a background of deep blue lacquer representing a starry sky and, as it spins, red triangles set on the third cage indicate 20-second intervals, which are marked on a sapphire crystal arc.

BREAKTHROUGHS IN PRECISION: THE HELIOTOURBILLON AND THE DUOMETRE CONCEPT

Incorporating Jaeger-LeCoultre’s eight decades of accumulated expertise in the tourbillon regulating mechanism, Calibre 388 features a distinctive tourbillon construction that spins on three axes, enhancing chronometry and creating a kinematic effect that resembles a spinning top.

As it spins on a single axis, the traditional tourbillon does not compensate for the effects of gravity in all positions, which led the Manufacture’s engineers to develop different configurations, including the signature dual-axis Gyrotourbillon. The Heliotourbillon takes this thinking further, with three titanium cages rotating on three axes and a cylindrical hairspring. The first cage is set at a 90-degree angle to the balance wheel and the second cage is set at 90 degrees to the first. Together, these two cages are driven and constrained by an axis tilted at 40 degrees which makes a full rotation in 30 seconds. The third cage is perpendicular to the second and makes a full rotation in 60 seconds.  Supported on ceramic ball bearings to minimise friction, the tourbillon consists of 163 components and weighs less than 0.7 grams. 

Before Jaeger-LeCoultre developed the Duometre concept, adding complications to a watch movement seemed irreconcilable with accurate timekeeping. That’s because the fundamental requirement of precise timekeeping is that the power supply from the barrel to the escapement should never vary. However, a complication must draw on the power supply to operate, thus interrupting that steady flow and jeopardising precision. Introduced in 2007, the patented Duometre mechanism features two barrels and two separate gear trains housed in a single calibre and linked to a single regulating organ. One gear train powers the time indications and the other drives all additional functions. By separating the power supply in this way, the Duometre mechanism guarantees an exceptionally high degree of operating accuracy.

A PERPETUAL CALENDAR WITH A GRANDE DATE DISPLAY

Complementing the sophistication of the tourbillon and Duometre mechanisms, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers integrated a perpetual calendar into Calibre 388. Automatically adjusting for months of different lengths and for leap years, it needs no manual correction until 2100 and subsequently only in centenary years that are not also leap years. The year indication shows the last digit of a leap year in red – a Jaeger-LeCoultre patent. Unusually, in Calibre 388 the hours and minutes can be set either backwards or forwards without compromising the perpetual calendar. Normally, a perpetual calendar is set through the passing of time (the hour and minute hands), so adjusting the time backwards desynchronises and can damage the calendar mechanism. Calibre 388 also includes a Grande Date display: a classical yet rare complication sought-after by watch connoisseurs, and a moon-phase indication accurate to 122 years.

Calibre 388 features fine decoration, even on components that are not visible through the sapphire crystal caseback: brushed surfaces contrast with perlage; edges are hand-bevelled and polished; sunrayed Geneva stripes (côtes de Genève soleillées) radiate seamlessly across the expanse of the bridges. Like all Jaeger-LeCoultre movements, Calibre 388 was conceived, designed, produced, assembled and finished within the Manufacture.

Complex, highly innovative and aesthetically refined, the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual in platinum epitomises Jaeger-LeCoultre’s boundless creativity and its technical sophistication represents a new achievement in the Maison’s quest for timekeeping precision.

SHOWCASING THE ARTISTRY OF THE MÉTIERS RARES^TM ATELIER

From polo to Pegasus: The legendary winged horse of Greek mythology – believed to have carried thunderbolts for Zeus and to have created springs to flow wherever its hoof touched the ground – Pegasus symbolises freedom, creative power and elevation beyond limits. More than a myth, it represents the moment when technique becomes imagination.

This symbolism resonates with the Reverso’s equestrian origins. Designed on the polo field, its swivelling case reflects a constant interplay between protection and expression, discipline and freedom – echoing the dual nature of the horse itself. The connection extends through the Year of the Fire Horse, a sign of intensity, independence and bold energy. Together, these references position the horse as more than inspiration: a thread that unites function, symbolism and creative transformation at the heart of the Reverso.

Celebrating the savoir-faire of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares^TM atelier, the hand-engraved case marries rare artistic sensibility with remarkable precision and dexterity: the Maison’s master engraver must devote 180 hours of intensely focused work to each watch, to craft the image of Pegasus against a background of clouds. The sculptural effect of the relief engraving creates areas of reflection and shadow, emphasising the sense of volume. As the engraving wraps seamlessly around the convex case-sides, it almost completely obscures the join between the upper and lower sections of the case.

Where mechanism becomes art: The cloud motif that forms the backdrop to Pegasus is repeated on the front dial, where two dial plates – each on a different level – enhance the symmetry of the time display and the tourbillon aperture.

To create the decoration, more than 50 hollows were formed in the surface of the 18K pink gold (750/1000) plates, leaving only the cloud-shaped outlines visible. Each hollow is then hand-filled with different shades of blue lacquer, applied in multiple layers until its surface is perfectly flush with the outlines.

Between the plates, open-worked bridges, also hand-lacquered in dark blue, offer a tantalising glimpse of the movement – in keeping with the Hybris philosophy of celebrating mechanical as well as decorative art.

Turning the case over to the reverse dial, where the Duoface movement displays the second time zone, the beauty of the calibre is fully revealed.

Blue lacquer has been applied to the fine tracery of the skeletonised hours-minutes ring and its supporting bridges, highlighting the airy aesthetic. It contrasts with the warm tones of the 18K pink gold (750/1000) movement components and the soft texture of micro-blasted surfaces.

The skeletonisation is complemented by hand bevelling and hand-applied lacquer. Representing approximately 14 hours of hand-bevelling work only for the cage of the Gyrotourbillon and eight hours for the signature shape of one bridge on the reverse side, the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 is testament to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s commitment to craftsmanship of the highest order.

A MECHANICAL MASTERPIECE

Inspired by a fascination with the tourbillon: Calibre 179 features the fourth evolution of the Gyrotourbillon, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s signature multi-axis tourbillon – a technical tour-de-force developed expressly for the rectangular case of Reverso. The demand that the regulating mechanism be integrated into a shaped movement that follows the contours of the rectangular Reverso case and is slim enough to be comfortable on the wrist, makes the engineering feat even more noteworthy. Moreover, as a Duoface movement, Calibre 179 displays a different time zone on each dial as well as a 24-hour indicator on the reverse dial.

Highly complex and visually enthralling to observe as it pirouettes around its twin axes, the Gyrotourbillon comprises 123 components, including one ultra-light titanium cage and a peripheral carriage mounted on ball-bearings. These two elements turn perpendicularly to each other at different speeds – the inner tourbillon cage rotating 360 degrees in just 16 seconds and the peripheral carriage making a full rotation once per minute. This peripheral carriage also provides a small-seconds function, indicated on a ring that encircles the tourbillon aperture. A closer look reveals a greyed semi-spherical balance spring beating at the heart of the mechanism, as well as the distinctive double-anchor shape of a Gyrolab balance ‘wheel’ – both elements paying testament to Jaeger- LeCoultre’s tireless quest for greater precision and mechanical efficiency. In this quest, the Manufacture’s engineers have created balance springs in several different forms over the years and this hemispherical shape, perfectly adapted to the hollow sphere at the heart of the Gyrotourbillon, adds aesthetic refinement as well as mechanical efficiency. The double-anchor shape of the Gyrolab was designed to reduce air friction and thus further enhance timekeeping accuracy.

Rather than being held in place by a conventional bridge, the tourbillon mechanism is supported by a ring of ball bearings, creating the illusion that this flying Gyrotourbillon is floating freely in the space between the front and back dials of the Reverso. The effect is amplified by the light reflected from the mirror-like surface of a polished blue lacquer disc positioned on the supporting cradle of the watch directly beneath the tourbillon aperture.

REVERSO: FROM ART DECO ORIGINS TO TIMELESS DESIGN ICON

Since its creation in 1931, the Art Deco lines and swivelling case of the Reverso have made it one of the most recognisable designs in watchmaking.  The rectilinear geometry and harmonious proportions of the case belie the complexity of the signature slide-and-swivel mechanism. Emphasised by the signature gadroons above and below the dial and a deeply engraved sunray pattern on the inside of the case cradle, the strong Art Deco lines counterbalance the intricate decoration of the case and dials of the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 Pegasus.

The baguette-cut stones for each timepiece, set between the gadroons above and below the dial, amplify the Reverso’s rectilinear geometry and create a vivid contrast with the polished gold case and Milanese bracelet, complemented by the subtle texture and matte effect of the grained dial.

The gem-setters of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares™ atelier use rail setting – an ‘invisible setting’ technique perfected in the 1930s – to create an unbroken line of colour and light. Requiring extreme precision to achieve loupe-perfect straight edges and to lock the stones securely in place while ensuring that their surfaces are exactly level with each other, rail setting involves forming a framework of tracks (rails) a fraction of a millimetre wide in the gold beneath what will be the level of the stone. The gem-setter then slides the stone onto the track and folds a minute amount of gold over its edge to secure it before sliding the next stone into place. Through the rail setting technique, the gem-setter’s challenge lies in delicately folding the gold of the case over the 46 baguette-cut blue sapphires without compromising the stones. Each stone is set edge-to-edge and secured thanks to the rail and the case’s gold, creating a continuous flow of light with no other points of support. Each gem-setting technique demanded meticulous work; however, due to its inherently fragile attributes, the emerald was the stone that required the most specialised attention. Its delicate nature necessitated extreme precision in handling and setting, ensuring every facet of its vibrant beauty was preserved and perfectly showcased without risk of damage.

Set in a case measuring 45.6 mm x 27.4 mm with a slim profile of 7.56 mm, the Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds ‘Or Deco Cocktail’ novelties are powered by the same hand-wound Calibre 822 as featured in the 2025 original Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds ‘Or Deco’, a movement that still features a small seconds display at 6 o’clock on the dial and provides a power reserve of 42 hours. The same movement, which is shaped to echo the lines of the rectangular case, was also designed, produced, and assembled entirely in-house.

THE CONSTANTLY EVOLVING STYLE OF A DESIGN ICON

Reverso, an icon: Created in 1931, the Reverso was designed to meet the demands of the newly fashionable ‘sporting gentleman’. A challenge was set by polo-playing military officers in India during the British Raj of 1858-1947 to create a watch that could withstand the rigours of the polo field.

Reverso was the answer – a masterful integration of form and function. Quickly adopted by tastemakers from all walks of life, the Reverso soon transcended its original sporting purpose as new variations appeared – for both men and women. However, its iconic double-sided case and distinctive Art Deco lines have remained constant, making the Reverso one of the world’s most recognisable wristwatches. Over the decades, many variations of the Reverso have been created, both stylistic and mechanical, without ever compromising its identity. The distinctive and timeless design accounts for much of the Reverso’s enduring appeal – and for its recognition as an icon of Art Deco style.

Milanese mesh, a story behind the style: With a flat and silky-smooth finish, Milanese mesh is made by twisting fine threads of metal together in a particular way to form a double layer of densely interlocking small links. Because it requires no pins to join any sections, it is as flexible as a ribbon and highly durable. Milanese mesh originated in 13th-century Milan (from which it takes its name) as a type of chain mail armour. Renaissance goldsmiths then developed precious metal versions of the mesh for jewellery. However, the craft remained almost unknown outside Italy until the 1920s, when German jewellers mastered the technique.

Over the past century, the story of Milanese mesh has surprising parallels with that of the Reverso: as the epitome of Art Deco style, both became the height of fashion in the 1930s. Then, in the mid-20^th century, as tastes and lifestyles changed, their popularity waned – before both enjoyed great revivals in the 1970s. Milanese mesh was ‘reborn’ for watch bracelets perfectly in tune with the ’70s aesthetic and the Reverso was rediscovered by the Milan-based watch distributor Giorgio Corvo, prompting a full relaunch by Jaeger-LeCoultre. Coinciding with the revival of mechanical watchmaking after the ‘quartz crisis’, the Reverso’s star ascended rapidly. Meanwhile, Milanese mesh again fell out of fashion until recently, when its crossover style – vintage-modern, sporty-elegant, masculine-feminine – sparked the latest revival.

Rather than simply adding a Milanese mesh bracelet to an existing design, each watch in the ‘Or Deco’ series was conceived and designed as a cohesive whole, with a unified all-gold aesthetic achieved through a mix of shades and textures. The finely grained dial provides a subtle counterpoint to the polished shine of the case, bracelet and applied hour indexes. The brushed finish of the 18K gold (750/1000) integrated buckle provides further contrast with the shiny polished Milanese mesh. 

The slim profile of the Milanese bracelets was carefully studied to best complement the slender form of the 7.56 mm-thick Reverso case: the thickness of the gold thread – and consequently, the size of each mesh link – were crucial to attaining the most harmonious balance. To achieve a visually seamless case-to-bracelet integration, a specialised attachment link was developed: the barrette passes directly through the links, rather than using a traditional tube structure, and the lug holes were redesigned to accommodate it. The integrated sliding buckle was also designed from scratch. On the wrist, the bracelet feels as smooth, soft and sinuous as a second skin – fitting perfectly thanks to the infinitely adjustable sliding clasp, and beautifully balanced thanks to the weight of the gold.

The five novelties, unveiled in the sillage of the Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds ‘Or Deco’ with Milanese link bracelet, perfectly highlight the Reverso’s unique adaptability to evolve over time – balancing contrasting qualities: sporty or elegant, contemporary or retro; masculine or feminine, and often a blend of several attributes at once.

For much of the 20th century, wristwatch design was shaped by a cultural preference for restraint. Above all, watches were instruments of precision and markers of refinement, designed to sit discreetly on the wrist. Men’s watches typically measured between 30 and 34 mm, reflecting ideals of elegance and proportion, while women’s timepieces were often conceived as intimate, jewellery-like creations, sometimes even smaller. The Reverso, created in 1931, embodies this philosophy. Its rectangular case, born from a functional brief, naturally lent itself to compact dimensions, becoming a canvas for both masculine sophistication and feminine expression. Over time, evolving lifestyles and aesthetics led to a gradual increase in watch sizes, favouring a stronger presence on the wrist. Today, however, a renewed sensitivity to comfort, authenticity and timeless design is bringing smaller proportions back into focus, reconnecting with a more classical vision of watchmaking. As a tribute to this heritage, Jaeger-LeCoultre revisits some of the most emblematic Reverso models through a selection of smaller, more refined interpretations.

SIGNATURE DESIGN CODES, SUBTLY REFINED

Immediately recognised by their swivelling case and Art Deco lines, both Small models are presented in steel or 18K pink gold (750/1000). On the front dials, the Reverso Small models’ timeless signatures are maintained: a guilloché sunray pattern in the central rectangle appears to extend seamlessly into the markings on the chemin de fer minutes track. The textured pattern and vertically brushed dial forms the backdrop to the crisply defined Arabic numerals.

The Reverso Classic Small Monoface is complemented by alligator straps: the 18k pink gold (750/1000) version comes with taupe alligator and the one in steel with blue alligator strap or the option of a polished five-row steel bracelet. Adding a subtle touch of refinement, the ‘JL’ logo on the dial is now applied rather than transfer printed.

As with all Monoface models, the blank metal caseback invites personalisation with engraving or lacquer work, to celebrate a treasured memory or express individual style – an element that the owner can keep private or display to the world, according to which way the case is turned.

Offered in steel or 18k pink gold (750/1000), the Reverso Classic Small Duetto features a subtly modernised dial with new tone-on-tone applied numerals and ‘JL’ logo creating a harmonious and nuanced three-dimensional effect. The reverse dial also gains a sleeker and more contemporary look: the absence of numerals for 12 and 6 amplifies the sunrayed effect of the circular centre, while applied ‘double sunray’ indexes reinforce the pattern of the guilloché outer section. Underlining the Maison’s commitment to craftsmanship, more than 20 steps are required to create the two dials. While the Reverso Duetto traditionally features diamond-set gadroons on the reverse side of the case only, a new ‘Double Set’ option in steel is set with brilliant-cut diamonds on both sides of the case.

The Reverso Classic Small Duetto is offered with a strap package comprising a blue alligator strap and a steel bracelet (steel case) and a taupe alligator strap and 18k pink gold bracelet (pink gold case). All models feature Jaeger-LeCoultre’s signature interchangeability system, enabling an effortless and rapid change of style with fingertip operation.

Introduced in 2025, the Reverso Classic Monoface ‘Origin’ pays homage to the proportions and aesthetics of the first feminine Reverso, created in 1931. A new interpretation features diamond-set gadroons, enhancing the play of light on the dial finishes and case. Presented in a steel case, with the option of a blue alligator strap or polished steel bracelet, it features the unique attribute of all Monoface models: a blank metal caseback that can be personalised with engraving or lacquer. It can be worn in two ways: with the decoration hidden and the dial showing or with the case flipped over and worn like a piece of jewellery, with the time hidden until the wearer wishes to see it.

For 2026, the Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds has been reinterpreted with smaller case dimensions of 42.9 mm x 25.5 mm, creating a new ‘medium’ size that is closer to the original Duoface models of 1994. With this return to a classical size, the silvered-coloured opaline front dial is complemented by a blue-grey reverse dial that displays the second time zone – a colour new to the Duoface line that is enhanced by sunray satin-brushing and the polished steel of the case. Fitted with the manually wound Calibre 854, the Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds is presented with a black calfskin, designed by Casa Fagliano, featuring Jaeger-LeCoultre’s signature interchangeability system for an effortless change of style.

ENHANCED RELIABILITY AND PRECISION

Among the 1,400 calibres designed and produced in-house by the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre since 1833, many have achieved notable longevity, thanks to their reliability and precision. However, even on these ‘pillar’ movements, the Manufacture’s engineers are constantly making improvements in a quest for enhanced performance.

The new versions of Calibre 846 – fitted in the Reverso Classic Small Monoface – and Calibre 844 in the Reverso Classic Small Duetto represent a total of 16 changes to the mechanisms. Among them, a new silicon escapement increases the movement’s efficiency by reducing friction, while also enhancing robustness and precision by reducing the negative impact of magnetism. With an increase in the barrel diameter – achieved without increasing the overall size of the calibre – power reserves have increased from 38 hours to 50 hours.

The latest versions of these four emblematic Reverso models perfectly represent Jaeger-LeCoultre’s commitment to safeguarding the collection’s unmistakable identity, evolving in new aesthetic directions that keep it eternally modern and constantly improving mechanical performance and precision.

Jaeger-LeCoultre presents two new artistic interpretations of Atmos Régulateur Calibre 582, with the clock’s mechanism set in a transparent glass cabinet and framed by two dramatic decorative panels. The new clocks offer masterful demonstrations of two very different traditional craft techniques and creative approaches, qualities long nurtured by La Grande Maison alongside its pursuit of timekeeping precision. Atmos Régulateur Enamel Colibris is decorated with blossoms and hummingbirds (colibris in French) miniature-painted in Grand Feu enamel, and Atmos Régulateur Wood Marqueterie features a striking Art Deco-inspired design in wood inlay. The new clocks will be unveiled as part of an exhibition held by the Maison in Milan from 21–26 April 2026 during Milan Design Week, the world’s leading international design fair.     

TIME, TURNED INTO ART

The perpetual power of a 1928 vision: Thanks to its unique mechanism – a breakthrough and visionary concept invented in 1928 by Swiss engineer Jean-Léon Reutter and further developed by the watchmakers of LeCoultre & Cie (later Jaeger-LeCoultre) to make the revolutionary concept viable for series production, Atmos runs independently of human intervention, meaning that it needs no winding or other input of energy.

The clock of unrivaled efficiency: Known as the ‘clock that runs on air’, it is powered by a movement that effectively achieves perpetual motion by drawing its energy from barely perceptible variations in ambient temperature. This thermal energy is transformed into mechanical energy, which drives the movement of the balance wheel. The secret lies in a hermetically sealed, gas-filled capsule, which is connected to the clock’s drive spring by a membrane. The slightest temperature variation changes the volume of the gas, causing the membrane to expand and contract – ‘breathing’ like the bellows of an accordion – thus winding the spring and providing the minuscule amount of energy needed for the balance wheel to make its once-a-minute, back-and-forth oscillation. A temperature fluctuation of a single degree Celsius is enough to provide the clock with an operating autonomy of about two days; its energy consumption is so slight that it would require 60 million Atmos clocks to use the same amount of energy as a single 15-watt incandescent light bulb.

Where mechanism becomes art: The technical requirements of Atmos determine the distinctive architecture of its mechanism, which – being fully open to view within its glass cabinet – has anchored the clock’s strong aesthetic identity since the beginning, thus enabling experiments with design as early as the 1930s. The strength of this identity also makes Atmos an ideal canvas for artistic creativity.

Since the 1970s, Jaeger-LeCoultre has invited leading designers, alongside masters of traditional crafts – such as enamelling and marqueterie, first introduced in 1934 – to reinterpret the clock in their own style.

These explorations have extended to material experimentation, from ambrolite to all-glass constructions, as well as lacquer work and gem-setting.

Complications engineered for perpetual motion: Because the nature of Atmos mechanism requires its energy consumption to remain as low and as consistent as possible, it does not naturally lend itself to the addition of other timekeeping complications – the operation of which requires surges of higher energy. However, as the Manufacture continually worked to improve the clock’s performance over the decades, its engineers succeeded in developing the first Atmos with a moon-phase indication in 1992. Further complications have followed, including calendars, a celestial chart, Equation of Time, sunrise and sunset times, a regulator display and, most remarkably, a tellurium.

CALIBRE 582: A REGULATOR WITH 3,821-YEAR ACCURACY

Distinguished by its regulator display, Calibre 582, like all Jaeger-LeCoultre calibres, was conceived, designed and is entirely produced within the Manufacture. In keeping with the Maison’s pursuit of precision, Atmos Régulateur represents a modern continuation of a centuries-long lineage of scientific reference clocks. In clock and watchmaking, the regulator design originated not as an aesthetic choice but for the purpose of professional high-precision horology. Since the separation of the hour and minute displays enables exceptionally clear reading of smaller units of time, the regulator was often used as the reference for setting the time on other instruments. Continuing this emphasis on precision, the moon phase display of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Calibre 582 is so accurate that it would take 3,821 years to diverge by just one day from astronomical reality.

The design of Atmos Calibre 582 is defined by circles within circles, with layered concentric indications organising the information clearly and intuitively. The large minutes ring anchors the architecture and is complemented by the smaller hours ring, a 24-hour ring and a circular display comprising the monthly calendar and moon-phase display. The symmetry of the displays is amplified by three large, open-worked guide rollers arranged in a pyramid formation: two lateral rollers, attached to arc-shaped bridges on the left and right of the mechanism’s centre line, support the suspended 24-hour ring, while a stabilising roller located at the 12 o’clock position ensures perfect positional stability.   

A CELEBRATION OF ARTISTIC CRAFTSMANSHIP

Limited edition: Produced in only 3 pieces, decorated with a graceful representation of hummingbirds, cherry blossoms and hydrangeas, Atmos Régulateur Enamel Colibris pays homage to the delicate beauty of nature’s flora and fauna, while shining a spotlight on both the technical watchmaking expertise of Jaeger-LeCoultre and the artistic savoir-faire nurtured by the in-house Métiers Rares™ atelier.  

A scene of great craftsmanship: The dial and panels alone required a total of 45 Grand Feu enamel firings (15 layers for the dial, and 15 layers for each of the two panels). Each firing presented a constant risk of breakage, potentially requiring the entire process to start from scratch. Miniature painting is usually performed on the tiny surfaces of wristwatches, however, these decorative panels – each measuring 196 mm x 105.2 mm – posed significant technical and artistic challenges and required extensive research and trials before the enamelling could begin.

Steel was chosen for the base material as it would provide greater resistance to the multiple firings at 800°C or more that are necessary to obtain and fix the desired enamel colours. First, a layer of contre-émail (‘opposing enamel’) had to be applied to the reverse side to help equalise the tension that would be created by the multiple layers of dark-green enamel to be applied to the front of the panels. For the large surfaces of the panels, the enamellers had to perfect the ‘dry enamelling’ technique of sifting powdered pigment onto the plates – rather like dusting the top of a cake with icing sugar – repeating the process multiple times to achieve the desired depth and uniformity of green.

After every layer, the panels had to be fired, then cooled and perfectly flattened – with every stage carrying the risk of bubbling, cracking or dust specks, any of which would ruin the entire work. Finally, when the background was completed, the miniature-painter could begin work, balancing the apparent contradictions of artistic flair and absolute precision. The work was done in multiple layers, each needing to be fired, with every firing again carrying the risk of irreparably damaging all that had been done before. To succeed in such work is testament to a degree of mastery that can be achieved only with countless years of experience.

An illumination of time, in gold: The miniature-painted image extends in an uninterrupted flow, from a rich floral display on the left-hand panel, across the enamelled minutes ring, to the opposite panel where three hummingbirds hover among the blossoms. To create the hour and minute rings, the silver base of the rings was hollowed out to form shallow troughs, which were then filled with multiple layers of enamel – again, with firing after every layer. Once satisfied with the depth and richness of colour, the enameller could begin miniature-painting the floral details. The final staged was the addition of dots to mark the hours and minutes, using gold leaf paillonné, an enamelling technique that consists of cutting tiny fragments of gold leaf into precise shapes, placing them in position, then covering them with layers of translucent enamel. The decorative enamelling on Atmos Régulateur Enamel Colibris required 230 hours to complete.

The craft of wood inlay: Atmos Régulateur Wood Marqueterie is a contemporary celebration of the age-old craft of wood marqueterie. This decorative art technique was perfected in the latter half of the 17^th century, particularly by Dutch and French master cabinetmakers, the most celebrated of whom was André-Charles Boulle, whose works – often combining wood with tortoiseshell, brass and other materials – for the French royal palaces are now highly valued museum pieces. 

An ancient discipline of patience: To create the decorative panels for this Atmos clock, the desired pattern – a trompe l’oeil effect of apparently infinite depth – was meticulously hollowed out from the metal base material, leaving only the fine and perfectly straight-edged ‘ribs’ that were rhodium-plated to highlight the geometry of the pattern created by the wood inlay.  Then came the challenge of finding the desired wood veneers – mostly walnut – with complementary grains. In a process that required 50 hours to complete, 52 fine slices of wood veneer, each no thicker than 0.6 mm – as fine as a rose petal – were cut to shape with micron-precision to fit seamlessly into the prepared spaces, then hand-tinted in shades of blue ranging from light grey-blue through sky blue to deep ocean blue. Once the wood was inlaid to complete the pattern, the surface was varnished and polished, transforming the clock into a modern work of art with strong echoes of the Art Deco period when Atmos was born.

A play of geometric illusion: The blue tones of the marqueterie are complemented by the dial displays: the large minutes register is lacquered in blue, with applied, rhodium-plated indexes at five-minute intervals. The palette is reversed on the hours register, with blue-lacquered indexes and shiny rhodium-plated elements contrasting with a silvery opaline background. The moon phase display continues the theme, with a blue lacquered sky providing the background for a polished moon, which emerges from behind ‘clouds’ decorated with azurage to create a finely textured finish. Atmos Régulateur Wood Marqueterie will be produced in a limited edition of five pieces.

More than just a remarkable timepiece that runs on air, Atmos is an objet d’art that has fascinated admirers of both technical and artistic creativity for more than nine decades and the splendour of these two new interpretations ensure the continuity of Atmos legend for many generations to come.

During Milan Design Week this April, Jaeger-LeCoultre invites the public to discover ‘The Perpetual Timekeeper’, an immersive exhibition that explores the continuous dialogue that exists between design and daily life, through timekeeping objects that measure life’s tempo minute by minute, day after day.

The exhibition traces the evolving style of timekeeping, showcases the extraordinary one-of-a-kind Atmos clock, marks the unveiling of five exceptional new timepieces, and presents a curated selection of heritage watchmaking objects. This exclusive showcase pays tribute to the Maison’s long-standing creative collaboration with acclaimed industrial designer Marc Newson, a partnership first initiated in 2008. Alongside the unveiling of exceptional novelties, Newson’s avant-garde vision also extends beyond watchmaking to include a selection of his distinctive design pieces. ‘The Perpetual Timekeeper’ is open to the public free of charge and will run from 21–26 April 2026 at Villa Mozart in the historic centre of Milan.

THE ART OF TIME, UNBOUND

At Jaeger-LeCoultre, the art of horology extends beyond the wrist. Since 1833, the Maison has built its legacy on mastering the intricacies of watchmaking calibres. As the 20^th century brought profound transformations in society, technology and design, Jaeger-LeCoultre expanded its creative expression, applying its expertise to a diverse range of timekeeping objects including Atmos, where mechanical ingenuity and design culture converge.

Embodying the contemporary design values of Milan Design Week, ‘The Perpetual Timekeeper’ celebrates a remarkable marriage of technical ingenuity, design and craftsmanship. Highlights include:

A STORY TOLD IN SIX CHAPTERS

‘The Perpetual Timekeeper’ tells the fascinating story of the Atmos as well as showcasing Jaeger-LeCoultre’s rich legacy of creative design and technical ingenuity in a wide range of other timekeeping objects.

CHAPTER I: ATMOS, THE STORY

The dream of perpetual motion has fascinated humanity for centuries, expressing a deeper desire to master time, energy and autonomy. This long-standing quest took a decisive step in 1928 when a Swiss radiological engineer, Jean-Léon Reutter, succeeded in developing a prototype clock that came closer to perpetual operation than any other mechanism yet created. Known as the Atmos 0, it was powered not by rewinding or any other conventional energy source, but by subtle variations in air temperature, thus creating the unprecedented concept of a timekeeper designed to operate autonomously.

Early commercial versions revealed technical limitations, yet the invention’s promise remained undeniable. Jacques-David LeCoultre realised that, despite the brilliance of the invention, the mechanism required exceptional watchmaking skill to make it fully viable. He recognized its poetic force and mechanical potential, inviting Reutter to join forces with LeCoultre & Cie, initiating a collaboration that united visionary invention with high watchmaking expertise.

Refining the intricate mechanism and enhancing its reliability, this passionate collaboration first resulted in the Atmos I in 1932. This model featured apparent perpetual motion, on principle, able to run indefinitely with minimal external input as long as the ambient air temperature fluctuated, creating the illusion of endless operation.

Until 1938, early Atmos models used a mercury-driven motor block: a system of communicating vessels in which thermal expansion and contraction powered the movement. However, mercury’s fragility made transport difficult and limited reliability. In response, LeCoultre replaced it with a gas-filled capsule (ethyl chloride) and centralized production, while the underlying mechanism initially remained unchanged – known as Calibre 30A, as used in the Atmos I and II.

Powered solely by subtle variations in ambient temperature, it could transform a change of just 1°C into around 48 hours of autonomy, enabling the clock to function indefinitely without any manual input.

Soon adopted as a diplomatic gift, earning the name 'President’s Clock,' today’s Atmos Classic remains its dignified heir, preserving the timeless design codes that made the Atmos a symbol of prestige, continuity and enduring precision.

CHAPTER II: ATMOS, THE MÉTIERS RARES^TM

With its intricate mechanism and the mesmerisingly slow beat of its annular balance wheel, the Atmos clock transcends mere timekeeping; as an objet d’art rooted in the elegant minimalism of its Art Deco origins yet constantly evolving, it is a natural canvas for artistic expression.

Usually displayed within a glass dome or crystal case, the distinctive architecture of the Atmos movements has anchored a strong visual identity that is celebrated as much as the time it measures, embracing diverse designs while retaining its core spirit. Since the 1970s, Jaeger-LeCoultre has revived the spirit of aesthetic experimentation that marked the first decade of the Atmos in the 1930s. A series of collaborations with masters of decorative crafts have elevated Atmos clocks into works of fine art, and leading contemporary designers have reimagined the Atmos in their own style, while always preserving the clock’s unmistakable identity.

CHAPTER III: ATMOS, THE COMPLICATIONS

The Atmos’ apparently magical way of working is also a limitation: because the mechanism produces only a very small amount of energy (a single 15-watt incandescent light bulb consumes the energy equivalent to 60 million Atmos clocks), there is not enough power left over to drive additional functions. Visitors to the exhibition will discover how Jaeger-LeCoultre’s engineers solved this problem in 1982 with a new movement – Calibre 540 – that made it possible to integrate complications with only an infinitesimal increase in energy consumption. Having discovered that the ideal complications are those based on the long, slow cycles of the astronomical phenomena that lie at the origin of time measurement – such as the moon phases and seasons – they developed the first moon-phase Atmos at the end of the 1990s. In 2022, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers crafted the most complex Atmos clock ever conceived: the Atmos Hybris Mechanica Calibre 590, nicknamed the Atmos Tellurium as it incorporates a contemporary version of the tellurions – three-dimensional mechanical mobiles that precisely reproduce the true cycles of the Earth, Sun, and Moon – invented during the Renaissance.

CHAPTER IV: CLOCKS, THE WATCHMAKING OBJECTS

In the 1920s, personal access to time remained limited, positioning the timepiece as an accessory reserved for a privileged few. Jaeger-LeCoultre reimagined the clock by transforming familiar objects of daily and professional life. Thus, desk accessories, lamps and architectural miniatures gained the ability to measure and display time. By embedding timekeeping functions into useful, everyday items, the Maison blurred the boundary between utility and watchmaking, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary through imaginative design and meticulous craftsmanship. Conceived to integrate naturally into their environment rather than commanding attention as standalone objects, these timekeepers were often unexpected in form or playful in reference, blending refinement and surprise. Designed to be handled and lived with, set on a tabletop, read from both sides or slipped into a purse, these objects reflect a new relationship with time that is intuitive and naturally woven into the rhythm of daily life.

CHAPTER V: CLOCKS, THE TRAVEL OBJECTS

As the 20^th century progressed and modern life was increasingly defined by mobility, Jaeger-LeCoultre responded by transforming clocks into portable objects designed to accompany their owners wherever the journey led. Marrying technical expertise to aesthetic elegance and creativity, the Maison’s nomadic timekeepers include unexpected and immaculately crafted designs, sometimes incorporating functions such as barometers and thermometers. From the 1930s onwards, travel clocks embodied this vision of mobility. Miniaturised and integrated into mirrors, leather cases or folding table clocks, they combined mechanical reliability with practical design solutions adapted to movement. Designed to be handled and transported, these objects reflect an era fascinated by precision, progress, mechanical reliability and functional elegance. The introduction of the Memovox mechanical alarm in 1950 transformed time from a passive display into an active signal. Adapted into watches, desk clocks and travel objects, Memovox embodied a philosophy of time that alerts, guides and reassures.

CHAPTER VI: CLOCKS, THE DESIGN OBJECTS

From the 1920s onwards, fuelled by social, economic and technological change, a tremendous burst of creative energy expressed itself through a new design language that shaped every aspect of life – from architecture and graphics to modes of transport, household products and even industrial machinery. Clocks were no exception and Jaeger-LeCoultre embraced the new spirit of modernity, rethinking both form and display. Clocks became playful, surprising and sometimes provocative – objects of expression designed as a style statement as much as a display of the time. From Art Deco table clocks to boldly graphic compositions of the 1960s, each creation reflects a dialogue between watchmaking expertise and the spirit of its time. Mechanical precision remains indispensable, yet it is wrapped in freedom of interpretation, shape, material and style. Conventions are questioned: hands shift off-centre, dials rotate, proportions stretch or contract. These objects invite conversation, spark curiosity and transform the simple act of reading the hour into a rich experience.

EXCLUSIVE NOVELTIES: THREE MARC NEWSON DESIGNS AND TWO EXCEPTIONAL ATMOS PIECES

A creative collaboration with Marc Newson: Jaeger-LeCoultre and the celebrated industrial designer Marc Newson have periodically collaborated since 2008, pooling their expertise and creative energy to produce new interpretations of the Atmos – a clock that the designer describes as ‘a complex and magical object’. In 2008 they released Calibre 561; in 2010 it was Calibre 566; and in 2016 came the first iteration of Calibre 568. Famous for his work, ranging from furniture to luggage, a surfboard and a superyacht – Marc Newson has a longstanding interest in timepieces and has been fascinated by the Atmos clock since he first saw one in his early teens.

During ‘The Perpetual Timekeeper’ Jaeger-LeCoultre will unveil three new designs by Marc Newson, alongside a curated selection of his exceptional furniture creations: a new version of the Atmos Tellurium, a new interpretation of the Atmos Calibre 568 that he designed in 2016 and a new Travel Clock inspired by the Maison’s iconic Memovox alarm wristwatches.

A celebration of craftsmanship: The preservation and perpetuation of traditional decorative handcrafts – widely used in watchmaking until the end of the 19^th century but often forgotten as tastes changed during the 20^th century – has long been a core value at Jaeger-LeCoultre. As a fine watchmaking Maison, it takes its responsibility to nurture these crafts seriously, and as one of the few watchmaking Maisons to have its own Métiers Rares™ atelier in-house, it constantly encourages their evolution by applying them to different timepieces, in new ways. In the latest chapter of its ongoing collaboration with industrial designer Marc Newson, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils the Memovox Travel Clock. Drawing on the La Grande Maison’s rich heritage of travel timepieces, the design reimagines the ideal companion for the modern traveller. Compact enough to rest in the palm of the hand yet defined by a strong visual presence, it pairs the lightness of a titanium case with the tactile warmth of a Schedoni leather pouch. The Memovox Travel Clock will be unveiled as part of The Perpetual Timekeeper, an exhibition presented by Jaeger-LeCoultre from 21 to 26 April 2026 during Milan Design Week, the world’s leading international design fair.

AN INTERWOVEN HERITAGE OF TIME AND TRAVEL

Jaeger-LeCoultre's rich watchmaking heritage extends to the realm of travel, marked by the creation of Dual Time and World Time wristwatches, as well as travel clocks in various forms. Marrying this technical expertise with aesthetic elegance, Jaeger-LeCoultre has created a legacy of nomadic timekeepers distinguished by unexpected, meticulously crafted designs – some enhanced with functions such as thermometers and barometers.

This story is inextricably linked to the iconic Memovox alarm calibre, introduced in 1950. Announced by an advertisement headlined “Memovox reminds, notifies, and wakes up”, the Memovox (derived from the Latin for ‘voice of memory’) was initially designed for wristwatches to help businessmen remember their appointments. Given its utility, it was natural that Jaeger-LeCoultre should adapt the Memovox complication for a series of desktop and travel clocks from the early 1950s onwards. In both watches and clocks, the Memovox Calibre translates into a distinctive dial, with a triangular pointer at the edge of a mobile central disc indicating the alarm time, and a distinctive Memovox sound reminiscent of a traditional school bell.

Jaeger-LeCoultre and Australian-born industrial designer Marc Newson have collaborated since 2008, combining their expertise to reinterpret the Atmos – an object the designer describes as both “complex” and “magical.” This creative dialogue has given rise to successive calibres: 561 in 2008, 566 in 2010 and the first iteration of 568 in 2016. Renowned for his multidisciplinary practice, Marc Newson has long been fascinated by the Atmos, first encountered in his early teens. Guided by its timeless character, he introduces precise design interventions that respect and preserve the integrity of the object.

His approach explores unexpected uses of materials and challenges technical conventions. Rooted in a deep appreciation for analogue objects, his vision aligns with a commitment to longevity: creations designed to endure, both in function and in form.

FUNCTION AND FORM IN PERFECT HARMONY

A master in the marriage of function and form, Marc Newson brings a fresh eye to the technical and visual lineage of the Memovox, creating a contemporary object that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is practical and easy to use. In a symbiotic union of skills, Jaeger-LeCoultre harnessed its watchmaking expertise to bring the designer’s vision to life, developing several technical innovations to make it possible.

The clock is powered by a completely new, manually wound movement, Calibre 256, featuring the signature Memovox complication. Like all Jaeger-LeCoultre calibres, it was conceived, designed and produced entirely in-house. To eliminate concerns for travelers about rewinding the clock, Calibre 256 offers an exceptionally long power reserve of 12 days thanks to two large barrels dedicated to the timekeeping function. An additional third barrel is used exclusively for alarm mechanism.

Inspired by the traditional Memovox dials, the dial design plays on circles within circles, anchored by a distinctive power reserve indicator, shown in narrow apertures that form a broken circle around the large Arabic numerals. One day of power reserve corresponds to one hour on the dial, so that when the barrel is fully wound, all 12 indicators are orange. Starting from 12 o’clock and moving in an anti-clockwise direction, with each day that the power reserve reduces, the corresponding indicator turns blue.

The apparent simplicity of the display belies the technical feat behind it – a new mechanism developed and patented by Jaeger-LeCoultre comprising two intertwined helicoidal rings: a mobile ring in orange and a fixed ring in blue.  Surrounding the mobile central disc of the dial, which carries the Memovox’s emblematic triangular alarm pointer, minutes are marked on a fixed ring. With a narrow bezel and striking orange-and-blue colour palette adding a contemporary note and enhancing legibility, the hands and the alarm triangle are coated in SuperLuminova® for maximum visibility in low light.

Forged from the ethereal strength of titanium, the Memovox Travel Clock, a perfect sphere of lightness and resilience, embraces a diameter of 69 mm and a slender profile of 18 mm. Continuing the theme of circles within circles and the complete absence of visual clutter, a folding stand is integrated into the caseback, for use on a desk or bedside table. Concealed beneath the bezel, a peripheral winding crown offers the tactile pleasure of manual winding, time-setting and alarm setting – the desired function chosen by an integrated selector button.

The orange-and-blue colour scheme is echoed on the case back, with a central indicator for the alarm power reserve (orange turning to blue as it runs down) and a blue band on the underside of the winder, bearing several engravings, including the year edition and the series number of the clock, for which production is limited to 100 pieces per year.

A CASED DISPLAY: A DESIGN THOUGHT THROUGH TO THE FINEST DETAIL

To complete the Memovox Travel Clock, Marc Newson collaborated with Schedoni, an historic, family-run leather workshop located in the heart of Modena and renowned for its work on classic Italian sports cars of the mid-20^th century, as well as its signature leather-molding techniques. The clock is nestled within its own travel pouch, for its journey. This pouch, in turn, finds its place within a comprehensive travel pack, thoughtfully designed to also embrace three beloved wristwatches. Completing this ensemble, a curated kit of essential tools awaits: a discerning magnifying glass, a precise strap removal tool, and a screwdriver.

A dedicated display stand also accompanies the timekeeper, ideal for use when the clock is ‘at home’ on a desk or bedside table for an extended period.  Each of these companions – the pouch, the travel pack, and the elegant display stand – is meticulously crafted by the Italian luxury Maison Schedoni. Made from the finest tan-coloured, natural open-pore cowhide leather, their surfaces graced with the artistry of contrasting beige hand-stitching, a testament to enduring quality and design.

In 2026, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils a new interpretation of Atmos Calibre 568, created in collaboration with celebrated industrial designer Marc Newson. The new clock is a sequel to the designer’s initial version of the clock in 2016 and features a new colour palette as well as added technical functions – displays of sunrise and sunset times and Equation of Time – as well as an exceptionally precise moon phase display. This modern icon will be unveiled as part of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos exhibition during Milan Design Week, from 21-26 April 2026.

WOUND BY AIR, A MARVEL OF PERPETUAL MOTION

With a unique mechanism invented in 1928 by Swiss engineer Jean-Léon Reutter and refined for series production by the watchmakers of LeCoultre & Cie (later Jaeger-LeCoultre), Atmos operates independently of human intervention, requiring no winding or external energy input. Known as the ‘clock that runs on air’, it is powered by a movement that effectively achieves perpetual motion by drawing its energy from barely perceptible variations in ambient temperature.

This thermal energy is transformed into mechanical energy, which drives the movement of the balance wheel. The secret lies in a hermetically sealed, gas-filled capsule, which is connected to the clock’s drive spring by a membrane. The slightest temperature variation changes the gas volume, causing the membrane to expand and contract – 'breathing' like the bellows of an accordion. This action winds the spring, providing the minuscule energy needed for the balance wheel's once-a-minute, back-and-forth oscillation. A temperature fluctuation of a single degree Celsius is enough to provide the clock with an operating autonomy of about two days.

The technical requirements of the mechanism determine the distinctive architecture of the Atmos mechanism, which has anchored the clock’s strong aesthetic identity since the beginning. This strong identity also makes the Atmos an ideal canvas for artistic creativity and since the 1970s, Jaeger-LeCoultre has invited a series of leading designers, as well as masters of traditional artistic crafts, to reinterpret the clock in their own style.

PURITY, LIGHT AND PRECISION

A distinct visual identity: Marc Newson conceives the Atmos Designer Calibre 568 as an expression of clarity and precision. Stripped to its essentials, the design emphasises lightness, transparency, and legibility, allowing the movement to appear freely suspended within its hand-crafted Baccarat crystal case. In his 2026 interpretation, the designer preserves the clock’s particular purity while also adding new functions and a distinct visual identity. The monochromatic palette draws attention to the intricate mechanics behind the sunrise and sunset indications and the Equation of Time, making the complexity of the movement immediately visible.

The selection of the design's material naturally led to crystal. Its inherent aesthetic qualities and unique finish prompted Marc Newson to choose it for his project. The French company Baccarat, a celebrated traditional crystal manufacturer founded in 1764, is one of the very few with the necessary technical expertise to create the cabinet as envisioned: a square with rounded corner – evocative of a slowly melting ice cube – with absolute transparency and apparent fragility belying the structural strength required to support the weight of the mechanism. 

A technically complex feat: Requiring almost four years of research and development, the mouth-blown cabinet is a single, solid piece of crystal – except for a removable sheet of glass that allows access to the mechanism if necessary – its thickness reduced to just 13 mm in some places. After blowing, the red-hot crystal is carefully contoured into the envisioned shape using a two-sided mould to better control the cooling process and preserve the desired tolerances.

A floating architecture: Central to the clock’s architecture, the crystal must be extremely strong and stable to support the movement while giving the illusion that it floats in space within case. Visible only from the back of the clock, the four attachment points for the movement – rather than three as on traditional Atmos clocks – create symmetry and draw attention to the beautifully finished components.

Calibre 568’s dial is optimised for easy legibility with the time effortlessly read thanks to the simplicity of the Arabic numerals, printed in white on a black-tinted sapphire crystal disc and encircled by a minute track. The months are marked, in French, on an inner circle. The displays for the new complications maintain the simplicity – but appearances obscure the complex technical reality of this objet d’art. Appearing as a concentric ring between the months and hours, the times of sunrise and sunset are marked on a sapphire crystal disc, each indicated by a small arrow on the edge of the disc. The equation of time – the difference between the current mean time and solar time – is depicted as an ellipse surrounding the hand arbour, which moves to display the correct +/- minutes on the scale behind it. This collection will feature three distinct Atmos clocks, each meticulously designed to represent a different latitude: 30°, 40°, and 50°.

An exclusive production: Each timepiece in this exclusive limited production of just 50 pieces worldwide per year will not only showcase the intricate 'Equation Of Time' but will also elegantly display the precise sunset and sunrise times specific to its designated latitude. While the moon phases are displayed on a smoothly finished disc at 6 o’clock, the calculations for the equation of time, sunset, and sunrise on these limited production pieces are precisely tailored to their respective geographical latitudes. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers have been able to achieve a remarkable degree of precision in the display, to only one day of discrepancy in every 4,087 years. If the Atmos is left unattended and running continuously, its displays will remain correct for this entire period – the only exception being bi-annual adjustments for Daylight Savings Time in countries that use the protocol.

For a new moment in time, Marc Newson’s vision combined with the Ateliers of La Grande Maison, has yielded a timeless objet d’art, an infinite clock that seems to defy the physics of time altogether. Following the creation of the Atmos Hybris Mechanica Tellurium Calibre 590 in 2022, Jaeger-LeCoultre and the celebrated industrial designer Marc Newson team up to create a second edition of the most complex Atmos ever created. Housed within a glass globe studded with sapphires and produced in a limited edition of just three pieces, Marc Newson’s interpretation of the Atmos Tellurium Calibre 590 will be unveiled as part of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos exhibition during Milan Design Week, from 21-26 April 2026.

WOUND BY AIR, A MARVEL OF PERPETUAL MOTION

With a unique mechanism invented in 1928 by Swiss engineer Jean-Léon Reutter and refined for series production by the watchmakers of LeCoultre & Cie (later Jaeger-LeCoultre), Atmos operates independently of human intervention, requiring no winding or external energy input. Known as the ‘clock that runs on air’, it is powered by a movement that effectively achieves perpetual motion by drawing its energy from barely perceptible variations in ambient temperature.

This thermal energy is transformed into mechanical energy, which drives the movement of the balance wheel. The secret lies in a hermetically sealed, gas-filled capsule, which is connected to the clock’s drive spring by a membrane. The slightest temperature variation changes the gas volume, causing the membrane to expand and contract – 'breathing' like the bellows of an accordion. This action winds the spring, providing the minuscule energy needed for the balance wheel's once-a-minute, back-and-forth oscillation. A temperature fluctuation of a single degree Celsius is enough to provide the clock with an operating autonomy of about two days.

The technical requirements of the mechanism determine the distinctive architecture of the Atmos mechanism, which has anchored the clock’s strong aesthetic identity since the beginning. This strong identity also makes the Atmos an ideal canvas for artistic creativity and since the 1970s, Jaeger-LeCoultre has invited a series of leading designers, as well as masters of traditional artistic crafts, to reinterpret the clock in their own style.

A NEW COLLABORATION WITH MARC NEWSON

Jaeger-LeCoultre and Australian-born industrial designer Marc Newson have collaborated since 2008, combining their expertise to reinterpret the Atmos – an object the designer describes as both “complex” and “magical.” This creative dialogue has given rise to successive calibres: 561 in 2008, 566 in 2010 and the first iteration of 568 in 2016. Renowned for his multidisciplinary practice, Marc Newson has long been fascinated by the Atmos, first encountered in his early teens. Guided by its timeless character, he introduces precise design interventions that respect and preserve the integrity of the object.

His approach explores unexpected uses of materials and challenges technical conventions. Rooted in a deep appreciation for analogue objects, his vision aligns with a commitment to longevity: creations designed to endure, both in function and in form.

A NEW DESIGN CAPTURES THE BEAUTY OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM

Calibre 590 is the most complicated Atmos movement ever created, reproducing the cycles of Earth, the Sun and Moon with great precision, in three-dimensional form. Jaeger-LeCoultre named this clock the Tellurium in homage to the three-dimensional mobiles of the same name invented during the Renaissance after Copernicus introduced his heliocentric model of the solar system; a tellurium reproduces the rotation of Earth and its orbit around the Sun as well as the orbit and rotation of the Moon around Earth. Starting in the 18^th century, watchmakers thought to combine the tellurium with elaborate clocks.

A celestial globe: Inspired by the beauty and mystery of the cosmos beyond Earth’s solar system, Marc Newson has designed a new cabinet for the Atmos Tellurium: a perfect globe of glass engraved with a map of the 64 constellations visible mainly in the Northern Hemisphere that is inset with 539 cabochon-cut sapphires (32K) representing the principal stars. Marc Newson’s work as a designer is distinguished by his use of materials in new ways that often require the development of new processes, usually through a process of experimentation. In the case of the Atmos Tellurium, a great deal of research and many iterations were required to achieve the illusion of “invisible setting”, with the gemstones inset directly into the external surface of the glass, with their rounded forms creating a subtle three-dimensional effect.

The heavenly objet d’art rests on a laser-engraved plate reproducing the surface of the moon and sits on a circular, ribbed base of dark-blue anodised aluminium that matches the blue of the anodised dial.

Artistry in motion: Commensurate with the extraordinary complexity and technical sophistication of Calibre 590, the mechanism’s key components are highlighted with a variety of decorative finishes. The three-dimensional Earth is miniature-painted by hand in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares^TM atelier to add depth and detail; laser engraving recreates the surface of the Moon and meteorite – a material that has literally fallen from space – is inlaid on the earth-moon ring.  For his reinterpretation of the Atmos Tellurium, Marc Newson chose more contemporary finishes to create an aesthetic tension that perfectly balances tradition and modernity: galvanised aluminium for the hours-and-minutes ring and brushing on the movement plates and balance wheel.

The entire clock is supported on a plinth of blue calf leather, which forms part of a modular case that can be used in various configurations for displaying or storing the clock. Designed by Marc Newson, the case is handcrafted by Serapian, the renowned Milanese leather workshop, in its signature Mosaico pattern – created by a hand-weaving process developed by the Italian firm in 1947.

ETERNITY UNDER GLASS

Introducing extraordinary functions: As well as incorporating the functions of a tellurium, Calibre 590 adds displays for the corresponding months and seasons as well as a zodiacal calendar. As the Moon rotates, it reproduces its phases with exceptional precision, with a discrepancy of only one day every 5,770 years.

A calendar in motion: The clock dial showing hours and minutes is encircled by a two-layered ring: the visible upper layer is immobile, marked with an hour-and-minute track and the names of the seasons. The second, hidden layer is marked with the months and revolves, revealing the name of the current month in an aperture at 6 o’clock. This peripheral ring encircles a translucent blue sapphire crystal disc that is laser-engraved with symbols representing the zodiac signs. At the centre of this disc, the Sun is represented by a burst of sunrays in polished 18K pink gold, the longest of which points to the current zodiac sign.

Earth and Moon in harmony: Close to the peripheral ring, balanced by a wedge-shaped counterweight, a smaller circle of meteorite frames a transparent light-blue sapphire disc into which revolving, spherical depictions of Earth and the Moon are set. This earth rotates on its axis in 24 hours, the length of one civil day, providing the day-night indication as it revolves. At the same time, the moon orbits this earth in one synodic month, revolving on its own axis to display its phases. Defined by one complete cycle of moon phases, an average synodic month is 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2 seconds in length.

Tracking the seasons with precision: The earth-and-moon subdial orbits around the central sun, making a complete rotation in one year and indicating the seasons as it turns. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers have succeeded in establishing a cycle of 365.2466 days, which is so close to the 365.2425 days of the Gregorian calendar that it varies by only one day in 390 years, meaning that so long as the clock remains wound, the calendar will not need adjusting until the year 2416.

STORY: FROZEN LANDSCAPES FORGED THE BIRTHPLACE OF PRECISION

Telling the story of watchmaking birth

The Valley of Inventions pays homage to an isolated valley where, 600 years ago, refugees from elsewhere in Europe found safe haven. Life followed a strict seasonal rhythm: in summer, the Vallée de Joux revolved around alpine farming and dairy production; in winter, when harsh conditions brought agriculture to a standstill, farmers turned to metalworking within their chalets. Necessity fostered ingenuity, patience and precision led them to craft increasingly intricate objects - a path that would ultimately give rise to watchmaking.

Ten generations after Pierre LeCoultre’s arrival in the Vallée de Joux, in the early 19^th century, a self-taught watchmaker, Antoine LeCoultre, began inventing machines that laid the foundations of modern watchmaking, enabling the measurement and cutting of components to an unprecedented degree of precision. From the first LeCoultre watchmaking atelier in 1833, this spirit of inventiveness has defined the Maison. A succession of technical breakthroughs produced calibres sought after by many leading watchmaking names, earning Jaeger-LeCoultre its designation as The Watchmaker of Watchmakers™. With more than 430 patents to date, this legacy of invention continues to guide the Maison’s pursuit of precision, today and into the future.

Capturing the spirit of invention in the booth

Creating a richly evocative experience of the Maison’s origin-story of invention, the Watches and Wonders booth was inspired by the frozen silence of the landscape and forests in winter, contrasting with the warmth and shelter of the chalets where the valley’s early inhabitants began to hone their craft – first as blacksmiths and later as watchmakers. From the ice of the landscape to the fire of the forges.

The architectural layout draws the eye to the centre of the booth, where a spectacular pine tree, sculpted from ice, soars to almost four metres in height.

Panels of frosted and bevelled glass continue the icy theme, contrasting with the warmth of natural materials, particularly golden-toned pine wood, that pay homage to the valley. Set on three levels, the booth invites visitors to immerse themselves further in the story of invention and precision, and to discover the newly launched timepieces as well as the entire current collection.

NEW MODELS: KEEPING ALIVE THE SPIRIT OF INVENTION

The pursuit of precision

From aesthetic reinterpretations of existing models to entirely new calibres, the timepieces presented at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026 express different facets of precision.

A chronometry quest: The Master Control Chronometre sets a new benchmark in chronometric performance, presented on an integrated metal bracelet. This commitment extends even further, as the new Jaeger-LeCoultre HPG seal - High Precision Guarantee - attests to its superior quality and finishing. The Master Control Chronometre collection makes its debut with three models, each offering a different complication: a date display, a perpetual calendar and a combination of power reserve and date – the latest driven by a new in-house movement, Calibre 738.

Upmost precision: The Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère pushes the boundaries of precision, with its three axes covering 98% of possible positions. Its construction, for which patent applications were filled, comprising 189 components, achieves extreme lightness, as the triple-axis tourbillon weighs a mere 0.78 grams. The Calibre 178 movement is elevated by Métiers Rares™ finishes - including guillochage, enamel, and lacquer - transforming its intricate components into a dial-like masterpiece.

State-of-the-Art complication: Housing the world’s thinnest automatic minute repeater tourbillon, the Master Hybris Mechanica Ultra Thin Minute Repeater Tourbillon is presented in a new 60-part case and powered by Calibre 362. Its open-worked architecture and sapphire bridges reveal a captivating view of the calibre’s 593 components, whose assembly alone required seven weeks.

Award-winning movement, reinvented: The Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Jumping Date introduces a new movement architecture that creates a fresh aesthetic for Calibre 978. In 2009, this calibre won the first modern-era chronometry competition. An open-worked dial highlights the tourbillon, distinguished by a rounded 18K white gold (750/1000) bridge and a signature “jumping” date mechanism. The sophisticated 42 mm case, comprising 60 components, captures the refined design codes of the Grande Tradition collection.

The limitless Métiers Rares™ know-how

Since the establishment of the Métiers Rares™ Atelier in 2016, master enamellers, engravers, gem-setters and guillocheurs have worked side by side within the Manufacture, combining their skills to give rise to genuine works of art - each one the expression of human ingenuity pushed to its highest level.

Nature, an endless source of inspiration: La Vallée des Merveilles™, a new series of capsule collections, celebrates world’s most enchanting landscapes, from the world’s last pristine places to the artistry of the most beautiful gardens. The first capsule presents three new editions in the Reverso One collection, inspired by Hawaii’s tropical splendour and the delicate beauty of Japan, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship practised within Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house Métiers Rares™ atelier. These editions feature gold-leaf paillonage, champlevé enamelling, and gem-setting in limited editions of 20 pieces each.

Japanese grandeur, miniaturized: Unveiling four new Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Hokusai’ 10-piece limited editions that pay tribute to the expertise of the Métiers Rares™️. Each showcases grand feu enamel miniatures inspired by Hokusai’s iconic ‘Waterfalls’ series, complemented by intricate hand-guilloché dials and miniature-painted case backs. The new boundary in the pursuit of precision

Given the Manufacture’s constant drive for innovation, the new Master Control Chronometre introduces the new Jaeger-LeCoultre seal: ‘HPG’ High Precision Guarantee, which certifies not only the refined aesthetic finishes but also the high precision of the timepiece. This Jaeger-LeCoultre certification is met through an even more stringent protocol, for which a patent has been applied for, that rigorously tests cased-up watches, replicating the daily wear of a watch and evaluates performance against four critical elements of daily wear: altitude, shocks, positions, and temperature. By integrating these diverse conditions, the patent-pending method ensures that the watch's intricate mechanisms maintain their optimal chronometric accuracy, not just in ideal conditions, but throughout the full spectrum of a wearer's life. Beyond the HPG seal and to exemplify the accuracy of this new test, all Master Control Chronometre also receive the prestigious COSC certification of timekeeping accuracy – which is mandatory for the right to use the word ‘Chronomètre’ or the English ‘Chronometer’.

EXPERIENCES: EMBRACE THE QUEST FOR INVENTION

Presenting live demonstrations

On the booth, traditional alpine-inspired chalets host live demonstrations of four high-watchmaking skills by master artisans from the Manufacture. Two of these skills focus on intricate watch mechanisms, while the other two showcase artistic crafts dedicated to decorating watch cases and dials, each performed with meticulous precision.

Guillochage: the creation of patterns by hand-engraving precisely drawn and closely packed lines using an antique hand-operated machine called a rose engine lathe, that only two persons from the Manufacture know how to master.

Bevelling: an entirely hand-crafted process involving the filing and polishing of the edges of movement components, to create a sloping face that reflects the light from its mirror-smooth surface.

Watchmaking: a deep dive into the regulating organs of a timepiece, with a particular focus on the mechanical complexity of the Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère. Experts from the Research & Development Laboratory, comprising both the construction and innovation teams, together with watchmakers will decode the intricate architecture of this multi-axis system, while also showcasing the cutting-edge development of various balance-spring geometries.

Enamelling: a demonstration will feature miniature painting, one of the most demanding enamelling techniques. Illustrated through four new Reverso Tribute Enamel Hokusai editions, this showcase will highlight the meticulous application of enamel. Each coat is applied, layer after layer, before the next, revealing the techniques that bring painterly depth to the dial.

Offering a new gastronomic journey at Le Chalet

In the latest collaboration under the Made of Makers^TM programme, Jaeger-LeCoultre has commissioned the gifted Swiss chef Gilles Varone to create a new gastronomic experience for invited guests at Le Chalet, located within the booth. Taking on a gastronomic challenge centred on a controversial ingredient, cheese, the two-Michelin-star chef has devised four bites that deliver sensory surprises and elevate the most classical Swiss ingredient to new heights. Complemented by beverages specially created to enhance the tasting experience, the four bites reinvent the traditional concept of a cheeseboard, showcasing Gilles Varone’s reverence for natural ingredients through subtle flavour harmonies, unconventional textures and visually refined presentations.

Experiencing immersive cinema

A multi-sensory show presented every half hour narrates the story of the place, the people and the inventions that shaped the Manufacture. Inspired by multi-sensory cinema technology and designed to be viewed ‘in the round’ by all visitors, both inside and outside the booth. The show features synchronised physical and environmental effects that make audiences feel as if they are participating in the show, rather than simply watching it.

The new Master Hybris Inventiva Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère is the latest in a long line of inventions nurtured by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s pursuit of precision, which began almost two centuries ago. The triple-axis tourbillon construction of Calibre 178, for which several patents have been filled, ensuring 98 percent coverage of all possible positions, is arguably the most precise tourbillon wristwatch with the widest positional coverage ever created by Jaeger-LeCoultre. It also marks the inauguration of a new series within the Hybris line: Hybris Inventiva. Nestled within a finely finished 42 mm platinum case, the calibre housing the new triple-axis tourbillon is meticulously finished and hand-decorated with Métiers Rares^TM including guillochage, enamel and lacquer to highlight its distinctive architecture.

HYBRIS INVENTIVA: A NEW LINE HONOURING TECHNICAL BREAKTHROUGHS

Jaeger-LeCoultre unveiled the Hybris Mechanica series in 2003 as a collection inspired by a spirit of invention and a desire to push the boundaries of watchmaking by combining several reimagined high complications into one timepiece. The Hybris Artistica concept was revealed in 2014 as a collection of Métiers Rares™ expressions of existing high-complication models, designed to highlight the rare artistic handcrafts such as engraving, enamelling and guilloche that are brought together within the Manufacture. Now Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils a third Hybris line: Hybris Inventiva.

Timepieces featured for the Hybris Inventiva series will only ever showcase a single complication – but one so remarkable and groundbreaking that it will change the course of the Maison’s history. The Hybris Inventiva name is apt, since the calibres evolve from internal discussions hypothesising the invention of “impossible” complications. These discussions can last for years but, despite their apparent impossibility, the groundbreaking ideas eventually evolve into real research pieces that are worked on and tested for more years – and at times decades – with only a handful of people inside the Manufacture aware of their existence. This allows the master watchmakers and engineers the space and time needed to make possible the apparently impossible.   

Until now, such exploratory prototypes were kept in-house as highly confidential and purely conceptual pieces. With the Hybris Inventiva series, after many more months or even years of testing the prototype calibres, Jaeger-LeCoultre officially reveals the breakthrough to the public, always in very limited, numbered editions. Following the modèle maître (master model) principle, a Hybris Inventiva piece may then become the basis for potential future reinterpretations – whether combined with other complications in an extraordinary calibre to become a Hybris Mechanica (ultra-complication) piece and then reinvented through the artistic lens of the Métiers Rares™ atelier as a Hybris Artistica piece.

A NEXT-GENERATION MULTI-AXIS TOURBILLON

The tourbillon was initially invented for pocket watches to help combat the greatest enemy of precision: gravity. As the pocket watch was worn upright in one position, gravity eventually influenced the accuracy of its movement. The tourbillon, which spins the movement’s oscillating system around its own axis in a regular rhythm, was invented to effectively counter this natural effect. Today, with wristwatches being the prevalent personal timekeeper, watchmakers understand that multiple-axis tourbillons do much more than a single-axis tourbillon to prevent gravity from influencing their precision.

In 2004, Jaeger-LeCoultre embarked on a groundbreaking series of multiple-axis inventions with the unveiling of the first Gyrotourbillon. The first generation of the revolutionary double-axis tourbillon was meticulously engineered to ensure its oscillating system was never stationary in the horizontal position, solidifying Jaeger-LeCoultre’s pioneering role in multi-axis tourbillons. Building upon this foundational achievement, each subsequent generation of the Gyrotourbillon pushed the boundaries of precision and artistry. The second generation was distinguished by a new construction meticulously tailored to fit the iconic Reverso case. The third generation then ushered in the first Flying Gyrotourbillon, graced with the innovation of a spherical hairspring. The fourth generation achieved a full flying status, becoming the fastest Gyrotourbillon to date. The fifth generation showcased a triumph of miniaturisation, harmoniously integrating the Gyrotourbillon with a constant force mechanism.

Now, representing almost eight decades of accumulated expertise in tourbillon regulators, the Master Hybris Inventiva Calibre 178 Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère, for which several patents have been applied for, takes the technology even further, to become a tourbillon within another tourbillon within yet another tourbillon. The kinematics of this triple-axis tourbillon achieves 98 per cent of all possible positions to compensate for the negative effects of gravity on the precision of the watch. To optimise isochronic performance, the Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère is fitted with a cylindrical balance spring – a shape that beats concentrically in every position, regardless of amplitude (the back-and-forth swing of the balance wheel), position or power reserve – and runs on ceramic ball bearings to minimise friction. Its three titanium tourbillon cages rotate along X, Y, and Z axes at three different speeds – respectively, 20 seconds (inner cage); 60 seconds (centre cage or ‘cage of reference’); 90 seconds (outer cage) – to ensure that all positions are constantly covered. No other 4 Hz tourbillon on the market currently covers such a wide range of positions, giving gravity almost no chance to adversely affect the precision of the oscillator. The development of this supposedly impossible feat was initially sparked by the invention of the Gyrotourbillon, which already reached an outstanding 70 percent positional coverage in 2004.

For the last 22 years, Jaeger-LeCoultre has worked to improve upon that tourbillon’s miniaturisation, as well as different angles of inclination of the axes, eventually leading to the creation of the ultra-precise Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère. Taking its name from the ‘quiet layer’ of Earth’s atmosphere – the optimal cruising altitude for large jets, unaffected by turbulence – the Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère is composed of 189 components – almost double the number of components typically found in an entire time-only mechanical calibre – while only weighing 0.783 grams.

SCULPTURAL BEAUTY HIGHLIGHTED BY ARTISTIC DECORATION

Calibre 178 stands as Jaeger-LeCoultre's most profound achievement in harmonizing mechanics and decoration. Unprecedentedly, techniques typically reserved for the dial have been meticulously applied across its barrel covers, plates, and bridges, forging a seamless visual tapestry that utterly blurs the distinction between the dial and the movement. This transforms the calibre itself into a breathtaking work of kinematic art. Calibre 178 is decorated with 16 different techniques: sandblasting, perlage, polishing, flat polishing, straight graining, linear brushing, circular brushing, Côtes de Genève, diamond polishing, snailing, sunray brushing, bevelling, guillochage, lacquering, lapping finish, and enamelling.

65 hours of hand-bevelling: The sheer scale of this artistry is vividly demonstrated by the meticulous hand-bevelling. This intricate work is applied to 55 individual components – including 20 bridges, 18 cage components, 11 wheels, and 6 parts of the mechanism – and features an astonishing 64 inner angles, a true testament to extreme precision. Furthermore, the calibre incorporates 33 components crafted from solid gold. The use of such precious materials for plates and bridges presents an additional challenge during assembly, requiring the watchmaker to exercise exceptional care and skill.

A front-side adorned with blue enamel: On the front of the watch, the 18K white gold (750/1,000) movement plates are decorated with sunray guilloché and then coated with translucent blue enamel. The visible hollowed-out 18K white gold (750/1,000) bridges are filled with blue lacquer to match the design, and even the covers of the two large spring barrels – unmistakable from the dial side at approximately 2 and 10 o’clock – are engraved and hand-lacquered in the same blue.

A fascinating play of volume: The decoration continues on two decentralised dial rings: the top ring bearing the hour-and-minute display reveals not only the hand arbour in its open-worked centre but also more of the decorated twin spring barrels. The second decentralised ring surrounds the triple-axis Gyrotourbillon A Stratosphere at 6 o’clock and displays markings for 30 seconds (twice 15 seconds); the seconds are displayed by a small red arrow that travels around this subdial. The visuals add to the sculptural conception of the calibre, which plays with volumes in a fascinating manner. The spotlight, however, remains fully on the centrepiece: the triple-axis Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère.

Precision and power reserve: Ensuring high precision, the manually wound Calibre 178 beats at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and offers a remarkably long power reserve of 72 hours, requiring a rewinding once every three days.

As a Hybris Inventiva piece, the apparently simple elegance of the platinum case belies a complexity of detail. Polished, brushed and micro-blasted finishes create a fascinating play of light with every movement of the wrist, perfectly complementing the complexity of the groundbreaking technical achievement within.

A spectacle revealed on the caseback: The entire back of the watch is visible beneath a transparent sapphire crystal case back, providing the owner with an excellent view of Calibre 178’s support system. This features solid White Gold 18K (750/1000) bridges, traditionally decorated with Côtes de Genève, hand-bevelling, and high polish. These are complemented by 53 ruby jewels, some in gold chatons, whose deep red color contrasts with the monochrome white gold-and-steel aesthetic.

The design of the highly polished stainless-steel bridge holding the Gyrotourbillon À Stratosphère from the back was inspired by the tourbillon bridge of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s seminal 1946 pocket watch tourbillon. For this, and the bridge supporting the hours-minutes arbour, stainless steel was chosen rather than gold, due to the need for a much more resistant material in these two positions.

With the introduction of the Master Control Chronometre, Jaeger-LeCoultre begins a new chapter in the Maison’s long and distinguished history of Master collections.  The Master Control Chronometre collection makes its debut with three models, each offering a different complication: a date display, a perpetual calendar and a combination of power reserve and date – a signature alliance of functions driven by a new in-house movement, Calibre 738. The Date Power Reserve model is offered in steel and the other two models in a choice of steel or 18K pink gold (750/1,000). The case and its fully integrated metal bracelet have been conceived and designed exclusively for the Master Control Chronometre collection, introducing a contemporary design language that reflects today’s aesthetic and functional expectations. In keeping with the technical rigour that underpins every Jaeger-LeCoultre innovation, the collection also introduces a new Jaeger-LeCoultre high-watchmaking seal, HPG or High Precision Guarantee.

EIGHT DECADES OF INNOVATION UNDER THE MASTER NAME 

Born of the quest to create ‘the ideal contemporary watch’ – one that unites high performance with visually distinctive design and total ergonomic comfort – the Master Control Chronometre builds on Jaeger-LeCoultre’s remarkable 190-year legacy as ‘The Watchmaker of Watchmakers™’. In particular, the new collection synthesises the research, technical advances and evolving aesthetic identity of eight decades of in-house creations under the Master name since the 1950s.

The 1950s: The mid-20^th century was a pivotal time for mechanical watchmaking, with advances in precision, robustness and functionality driven by the postwar boom in technology. From this era onwards, epitomised by models such as the Futurematic and Geophysic, the Maison’s emphasis on technical performance was reflected in a purity of design, with traditional round cases enhanced by improved water resistance and complemented by highly legible dials.

The Master name – destined to become a pillar of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s collections – first appeared in 1957 with the launch of the Master Mariner, marking the formal beginning of a legendary lineage.

1973: Evolving the Master line in a different direction, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Master Mariner Chronomètre. At a time when there was a clear delineation between precious-metal dress watches and rugged sports watches, its avant-garde design proposed an entirely new style of watch. With a sleek steel case and fully integrated metal bracelet, it represented a new idea of relaxed, confident luxury that provided direct inspiration for today’s new Master Control Chronometre collection.

1992: With the new Master Control collection as its flagship, the Maison set a new benchmark: the ‘1,000 Hours Control’. This Jaeger-LeCoultre revolutionary process shifted the industry standard by testing not only the movement but also the precision and reliability of the entire cased-up watch.

A NEW SEAL OF ENDURING RELIABILITY

Given the Manufacture’s constant drive for innovation, the new Master Control Chronometre introduces the new Jaeger-LeCoultre seal: ‘HPG’ High Precision Guarantee, which certifies not only the refined aesthetic finishes but also the high precision of the timepiece. This certification is met through an even more stringent protocol, for which patent applications have been applied, that rigorously tests cased-up watches, replicating the daily wear of a watch.

The name ‘HPG’ holds a legendary place in Jaeger-LeCoultre's heritage, first introduced in 1970 on dials of pieces featuring Calibre 916 – the Maison’s pioneering 4Hz calibre, instrumental in delivering a high level of precision.

The new HPG seal evaluates performance against four critical elements of daily wear: altitude, shocks, positions, and temperature.

Altitude: the calibre itself is specifically undergoing atmospheric pressure variations simulating conditions from sea level up to 1,004 meters - the altitude of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Manufacture

For the remaining elements, the evaluation is performed on the case-up watch:

Multi-directional shocks: the shocks endured typically range from 25G to 50G, applied across multiple standardized watch positions

Positions: the testing reproduces alternating periods of multi-positions and fixed positions.

Temperature: the testing involves significant temperature fluctuations, from a cool 18°C during simulated rest to a warmer 35°C during active phases.

A sophisticated machine developed specifically for HPG subjects each timepiece to a comprehensive series of alternating cycles: periods of ‘stabilized rest’ mimic moments of repose, such as a watch resting on a bedside table, while ‘solicitation cycles’ recreate the dynamic challenges of daily wear. This comprehensive test unfolds over three days, simulating a full week's experience. Two days are dedicated to replicating active weekdays, featuring alternating periods of fixed positions, multi-position movements, and shocks, followed by further fixed positions. The third day mirrors a reposeful weekend, with the timepiece remaining in a stable, fixed position, as if resting on a table.

By integrating these diverse conditions, the method ensures that the watch's intricate mechanisms maintain their optimal chronometric accuracy, not just in ideal conditions, but throughout the full spectrum of a wearer's life. A commitment marked by the HPG emblem engraved on the watch casebacks.

Beyond the HPG seal and to exemplify the accuracy of this new test, all Master Control Chronometre also receive the chronometer certification of timekeeping accuracy by the renowned COSC Testing Institute – which is mandatory for the right to use the word ‘Chronomètre’ or the English ‘Chronometer’.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre HPG label also serves as a seal of decorative excellence, ensuring that each calibre component receives meticulous finishing. This includes a range of eight traditional decorative techniques: circular graining, Côtes de Genève, circular smoothing, burnishing, polished screw-heads, linear smoothing, sunk rubies, and bevelling. Jaeger-LeCoultre has embraced the evolution of traditional watchmaking finishes from functional to decorative, a mastery built on Antoine LeCoultre's legacy of precision. Perlage exemplifies this: initially designed to prevent glare for watchmakers, its practical use has faded, but it remains a refined aesthetic signature, showcasing how functional craftsmanship became high-quality artistry.

This dual focus on both uncompromising control and exquisite decorative artistry exemplifies the Maison's holistic vision of haute horlogerie.

A NEW CHAPTER IN THE MASTER STORY

As culture and design constantly evolve the hard lines between different watch categories have lost their relevance and become increasingly blurred. This is the time for a watch that seamlessly blends technicality and sophisticated, modern aesthetics: precise, reliable, instantly attractive and utterly comfortable to wear by both men and women.

The Master Control Chronometre collection is identified by a clearly defined aesthetic signature, translating vintage codes into contemporary form: a case of sleek and refined proportions, a fully integrated metal bracelet and a refinement of detail that is at once rich and restrained. This distinctive aesthetic is further elevated by the dauphine signature, which resonates throughout the watch's design, from the bracelet to the dial, forging a harmonious visual language. Exemplified by the three models that introduce the new collection, the design is a sophisticated play of volumes and forms, amplified by the opposition of polished and brushed surfaces and a subtle tension created by the repetition and interlocking of various signature shapes.

A seamless fusion of case and bracelet is achieved by the sinuous line that draws the eye from the widest point of the case through the first bracelet link. Contrasting with the polished bezel, crown and lug bevels, the satin-brushing on the case-sides and integrated bracelet attachment, creates an intriguing play of light and enhances the dynamic visual effect of the unbroken line from the case all the way around the wrist.

The three-row bracelet is beautifully conceived and finished, designed for maximum flexibility and comfort. On the central row of links, flat, vertical-satin-brushed surfaces alternate with highly polished links in the shape of triangular prisms. These sharp angles are echoed on the outer two rows of links, which feature dramatic V-shaped bevels, also highly polished to add contrast. Unifying the design of bracelet and dial, these angles draw inspiration from the form of the slim Dauphine hands and the matching, faceted shape of the applied indexes. The dials are sunray-brushed to create a richly coloured yet subtly smoky textured backdrop for the displays. Underlining the technical nature of the chronometers, the peripheral chapter ring is marked with seconds as well as minutes, and dots mark 5-minute intervals, which correspond with the hours.

A sapphire crystal case-back and open-worked 22K pink gold (916/1,000) winding rotor reveal the finely finished and decorated movements. This visual elegance is a direct reflection of the Manufacture’s mastery in combining aesthetic beauty with technical sophistication, particularly its achievement in energy efficiency, compact volume, and chronometric performance. This exceptional performance is made possible by integrating several technical innovations, with a strong emphasis on maintaining the calibre's remarkable slimness. For instance, the decision to incorporate central seconds displays – a deliberate aesthetic choice – posed a significant technical challenge, given the paramount importance of maintaining a slender profile. To overcome this, the gear train was ingeniously redesigned with side-by-side wheels, ensuring optimal energy transmission without compromising the movement's thinness. Furthermore, a silicon escapement enhances efficiency while reducing sensitivity to magnetic fields and wear. Operating at 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the high-frequency balance wheel ensures superior stability against shocks and environmental disturbances. This precision is physically etched onto the dial: the minute track is subdivided to allow for time reading to the nearest quarter-of-a-second—the visual signature of a Chronometre-certified movement.

Underscoring this commitment to both form and function, the bridges are decorated with refined, subtly executed Côtes de Genève, perfectly aligned with those on the winding rotor. The bridges, notably around the balance cock, have been entirely reworked, adopting cleaner, more architectural lines that enhance both visual depth and legibility. All bridges are bevelled at 45 degrees and the jewels are sunk; for visual contrast, the golden wheels stand out against the bridges, while the silvery-grey-tone of the screws harmonises with the movement’s overall palette.

Making its debut in the Master Control Chronometre Date Power Reserve, a new Manufacture movement, Calibre 738, is distinguished by the original alliance of power reserve and date display and is housed in a slim 39 mm stainless-steel case measuring just 9.2 mm in thickness. The dial design pays tribute to the Futurematic, launched in 1951, with two circular sub-dials precisely balanced on the 9 o’clock – 3 o’clock axis. 

On the left, the power reserve scale is marked with a red section to indicate a diminishing reserve.  On the right, dates are marked, with the position of the red ‘31’ echoing the red section on the power reserve register. Finished in the same blue-grey shade as the main dial, the sub-dials provide a subtle contrast with their azuré finish of finely engraved circles. Like all blue dials in the Master Control Chronometre collection, it is subtly graded from a lighter tone in the centre of the dial to darker at the edges.

Embodying Jaeger-LeCoultre’s vision of high performance in a refined, contemporary format, the new self-winding Calibre 738 was – like all Jaeger-LeCoultre movements – conceived, designed and produced entirely in-house. Measuring only 4.97 mm thick, it delivers an impressive power reserve of 70 hours while operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), a combination that reflects the Manufacture’s mastery of energy efficiency, compact volume and chronometric performance.

The Master Control Chronometre Perpetual Calendar offers a full calendar display, laid out in four sub-dials, with months and year at 12 o’clock, days of the week at 3 o’clock, and dates at 9 o’clock, complemented by a moon phase indication at 6 o’clock. Since Calibre 868 is a perpetual calendar movement, these indications take into account the months of different lengths and the leap years, maintaining accuracy with no need for manual adjustment until the year 2100, as long as the watch remains wound. For ultimate ease of use, all calendar indications are synchronized and can be adjusted simultaneously via a single corrector. Underlining Jaeger-LeCoultre’s expertise in creating ultra-thin movements, Calibre 868 is a mere 4.72 mm thick, enabling it to be set in a case measuring an elegant 39 mm in diameter by 9.2 mm thick.

The watch is offered in a choice of two metals: a stainless-steel case, complemented by a cool-toned blue-grey gradient sunray dial, and a pink gold case complemented by a sunrayed dial in a warm bronze-tone.  In a play of details, the sub-dials feature an outer opaline ring and central azuré finish, while the moon glows with hammered gold (958/1,000) for the 18K pink gold (750/1,000) version or platinum leaf (999/1,000) for the steel version – a discreet yet distinctive signature. The indications are driven by the latest generation of Calibre 868, offering a power reserve of 70 hours.

The Master Control Chronometre Date is distinguished by refined proportions of just 38 mm in diameter with a thickness of 8.4 mm, a size suitable for every wrist.  It is offered in two variations, each with a case and sunrayed dial in complementary colour combinations: the cool tones of stainless-steel harmonising with a blue-grey gradient dial or the warm tones of 18K pink gold (750/1,000) with a bronze-coloured dial. Powered by the most recent version of the automatic Manufacture Calibre 899, the Master Control Chronometre Date is also endowed with a power reserve of 70 hours.

Jaeger-LeCoultre presents the Master Hybris Mechanica Ultra Thin Minute Repeater Tourbillon, a new interpretation of the Maison’s celebrated ultra-thin calibre that unites a minute repeater with a flying tourbillon. Set in an 18K Pink Gold case (750/1000) measuring just 8.25 mm thick, the entire mechanism is open to view, its movement revealed by utilising the transparent property of sapphire, and the pared-back dial that forms an open-worked ring encircling the movement. The subject of seven patents – six of which were developed specifically for the launch of Calibre 362 in 2014. The watch unites some of horology’s most notable feats, including a fully flying one-minute tourbillon and a beautifully sonorous minute repeater.

A GREAT LEGACY: CHIMING WATCHES, ULTRA-THIN CALIBRES, TIMING PRECISION

Representing a major technical breakthrough and an innovative aesthetics when it was introduced in 2014, Calibre 362 draws upon Jaeger-LeCoultre’s remarkable heritage in two key areas: chiming complications and precision timekeeping. It remains the world's thinnest automatic minute repeater tourbillon.

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s expertise in ultra-thin movements dates back to the collaboration between Jacques-David LeCoultre and Edmond Jaeger, which resulted in the record-breaking 1.38 mm-thick Calibre 145, introduced in 1907.  

Since creating its first tourbillon movement in 1946 and its first tourbillon wristwatch in 1993, the Maison’s quest for ever-greater timekeeping precision has resulted in multiple inventions in both the construction of tourbillon cages and the shape of hairsprings, optimised for different forms of regulating organs. Since 1870, when La Grande Maison introduced its first minute repeater, Jaeger-LeCoultre has crafted more than 200 different repeating calibres. The Manufacture’s investment of time and energy into researching striking complications and the quality of their sound, timbre, volume and cadence has resulted in many patents, including several incorporated into Calibre 362.

Rather than superimposing separate layers for each complication, Calibre 362 was conceived from the outset as a fully integrated movement. The minute repeater is not added onto a base calibre; it forms an intrinsic part of the architecture. This integration is fundamental to achieving the exceptional thinness of the movement. The striking mechanism was entirely re-engineered to occupy minimal vertical space. Its optimised construction accounts for approximately one third of the calibre’s total volume, demonstrating how carefully each component was calculated to reduce thickness without compromising acoustic performance. By rethinking the layout of the racks, hammers and gongs within the main plate, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s engineers eliminated the need for additional layers traditionally required in repeater constructions.

Equally instrumental to the slender profile is the flying tourbillon that comprised 59 components and weights 0.248 grams. Suspended without an upper bridge, the one-minute flying tourbillon reduces structural height while enhancing visual lightness. The absence of an upper support not only contributes to the aesthetic transparency of the movement but also removes superfluous material, optimising vertical space.

The oscillating mass also plays a decisive role. Instead of a conventional central rotor, Calibre 362 is equipped with a peripheral oscillating mass that encircles the movement. This ingenious solution eliminates the additional thickness of an overlaid winding rotor, preserving the ultra-thin profile while ensuring efficient automatic winding.

Minute repeater integration, flying tourbillon construction and peripheral winding system - each element was conceived not as an addition, but as a structural contributor to thinness.

LIGHTNESS, TRANSPARENCY AND VISUAL CONTRAST

This Hybris Mechanica edition of Calibre 362 has been designed to showcase the entire movement - its assembly alone requires seven weeks - revealing the delicacy of its 593 components, including the entire operating sequence of the minute repeater mechanism and the captivating dance of the tourbillon.

To reveal and amplify this beauty, skeletonisation – meaning creating openings within the existing bridges of the Calibre – would be the traditional means. However, for Jaeger-LeCoultre, this was not sufficient, as the structural parts of the bridges and plates, which are essential for a movement's function, would still limit the visibility of part of the Calibre.

Sapphire Bridges, an innovative solution: Three bridges, essential for the structural stability of the movement, are meticulously constructed from transparent sapphire crystal rather than metal. This represents a significant accomplishment for the Maison, as creating sapphire bridges directly within the movement presented several technical challenges, notably the precise setting of its all-important 11 ruby jewels. Since direct setting into the sapphire was not feasible, 18K Pink Gold (750/1000) chatons were ingeniously employed – a technical feat that not only resolved the challenge but also enhanced the calibre's aesthetic beauty. To enhance their transparency and visual purity, the sapphire bridges are finished with polishing, anti-reflective coating, and an anti-static treatment.

14 different decorative techniques: The calibre's aesthetic brilliance is underscored by various finishes, including those on the case: sandblasting, perlage, polishing, flat polishing, straight graining, linear brushing, circular brushing, Côtes de Genève, diamond polishing, snailing, sunray brushing, bevelling, and guillochage. The exceptional precision of this hand-finishing is evident across all components, from the hand-bevelling and perlage to the varied brushing and polishing on diverse surfaces. This dedication to detail is exemplified by the 48 inner angles and 60 hand-bevelled components that adorn the movement.

An exceptional dial: The dial is elegantly complemented by an 18K Pink Gold (750/1000) case, distinguished by a variety of surface finishes that enhance the play of light across its contours – an aesthetic approach newly introduced for this calibre. Encircling this intricate display, the dial is pared back to form an open-worked ring of 18K White Gold (750/1000) around the movement’s periphery, revealing the elegantly guilloché in-house 18K Pink Gold (750/1000) winding rotor, a masterpiece crafted within Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares™ ateliers. To create visual contrast, the applied hour markers in 18K Pink Gold (750/1000) and the Jaeger-LeCoultre logo are matched with the hands and the winding rotor.

The art of integration: The complex case, designed and reinterpreted for the ultra-slim Calibre 362, is composed of 60 parts. Developed for the original Calibre 362, an innovative alternative to the conventional slide that activates a minute repeater combines a patented, retractable button at 10 o’clock that activates the function with a second button at 8 o’clock that locks and releases it. These buttons have been redesigned particularly for Hybris Mechanica Calibre 362 to integrate perfectly into its new case.

A MASTERPIECE OF TECHNICAL INVENTIVENESS AND THINNESS

Testament to the Manufacture’s enduring quest to create the ‘perfect’ chime, the minute repeater of Calibre 362, made of 187 components, features a striking mechanism designed from its inception in harmony with the regulating organ and automatic winding system. This design enables both exceptional acoustic performance and extreme thinness. Integrated directly into the calibre’s main structure, the minute repeater features one-piece, square-profile gongs optimised for tonal purity and resonance. These are paired with articulated trebuchet-style hammers that strike the gongs with greater velocity and precision, generating a sound that is at once powerful and refined.

Invented specifically for Calibre 362, the Manufacture’s patented silent time-lapse reduction mechanism further exemplifies this philosophy of integration. By dramatically minimising the pause between the hour and minute chimes – particularly in the absence of a quarter-hour strike – it ensures a fluid, uninterrupted acoustic sequence.

The transparency of the flying tourbillon is enhanced by both the cutaway in the base plate and the absence of cocks or bridges holding it in place, as well as the patented flying balance wheel. To ensure slimness while ensuring the most concentric ‘heartbeat’, and therefore timekeeping accuracy, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s engineers invented and patented the S-shaped hairspring, which is also fully visible thanks to the absence of a tourbillon bridge. The invention of this novel spring shape was necessitated by the particular construction of the tourbillon and the requirement for overall slimness of the calibre.

Three key innovations have made the technical beauty and complexity of Calibre 362 possible within an ultra-thin self-winding movement measuring just 5 mm in height.

The oscillating weight that winds the mainspring is designed as a peripheral rotor, with the dual benefit of adding no thickness to the calibre while also making the beauty of the movement fully visible from both the dial side and the back of the watch. Mounted on 36 specially conceived ceramic ball bearings and activated by the movement of the wearer’s wrist, it moves freely in both directions for optimal winding efficiency.
